Agree, and eth is trying to implement state sharding which is the most difficult one to achive (they can't do transaction sharding because it'll require them to change their whole code base).
But the recent news really put me off, sharding on ethereum won't happen AT LEAST until 2020, it'll give time to other platfroms to grow and some of them will be a better option to use in the meantime.

1. ETH can't be replaced. It is too big to fail and has first mover advantage on smart contracts.
