You can go through Coinbase since it's the most popular destination for unknowns to buy. It's the brand to buy from. You can buy using a card going to shapeshift or changelly. Go to myetherwallet.com and get a wallet. Go to Metamask if you want a good browser API/GUI that you log into and it connects you to your Ether wallet. It isn't a wallet itself. Remember to save all your private keys offline and NEVER give them out. Your money is gone if someone else knows your private key. It's the same as knowing the pin code to use your bank card. Your public key is your wallet address and where you send tokens to for storage. Your wallet is your life in crypto. Never keep your tokens on a central exchange. Decentralized exchanges don't necessarily hold your tokens. IDEX for instance, is on-chain so you always control your money. Remember to keep your seed phrase safe just like your private key. With Ethereum, when you send ether or tokens to someone, you pay a fee in gas(ether). This pays the miners who secure the network until ethereum turns to proof of stake where the fees should go down.
