Learn to trade on Runescape first, then move to Eve Online, then move to real life.

I'm working at a large Chicago trading firm and that was my natural progression (played Runescape from 2004-2018; EVE from 2015 to 2018). Tried trading commodities (mostly oil) in 2016 and am up 1160%+, although I'm not allowed to trade anymore on my own portfolio since getting this job. Previously worked in equity research.

IDK man, it'll be more cost efficient for 3rd worlders to set up microgrids with renewables than oil refineries and infrastructure.

When the change comes it'll be way too abrupt to be able to fix shit after the fact, so you better be prepared for it. No kidding but you should probably use geoengineering trails as an indicator; the more you see and the more frequent they are, the closer the end of the petrol era comes.

I've got a hunch about this one, next couple of years oil is dying a very sudden death

Eve is actually pretty good to learn trading, its a player run economy and you have a large number of markets connected by player trading. There are also high and low risk zones where the prices vary. you could make by simply moving goods from hi to null sec (or paying a hauling player). Lots of commodities and items of varying quality. If you can find a niche you can make bank, especially if you anticipate a trend or jump on a buff due to a patch.

Yes it will, so quite simply if that's the condition of your life: you don't day trade, simple - you take a slightly longer view and invest in less volatile things.
Now, good place to start for a 'value investing' approach is here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARrNYyJEnFI
I know he's a dick and he's in jail, but the info is solid and starts off very simple. He'll tell you how to read financial statements, even while you're practicing you can do 'paper trading' - you watch some stocks you like, make some notes, make some predictions about how they would do and put in a fictional investment amount. Then you see how accurate you were, and if you misjudged the price movement - you try and reverse engineer why.
Then once you're confident with that you can start using an online brokerage to make small trades, which other anons would probably be able to better inform you than me.

I dunno... it depends on your objectives, your style. I personally like Ray Dalio and George Soros, but some people will say go through and read the Berkshire Hathaway letters, others will advice Richest Man in Babylon (No comment - haven't read it), some will say read Poor Charlie's Almanack, some will swear by Nassim Nicholas Taleb others think that he's presenting old ideas as new.
I think the best way to learn is to simply paper trade, you can read as many theories and books as you want, but you need to understand the phenomena that underpin those theories and the only way to do that is to really study - study capital flows, find the correlations and historical patterns but don't just be like "oil makes dollar go up" but understand why, find out where the capital is flowing. If you get into value investing and looking at fundamentals a lot of your time will be spent understanding consumer habits, understanding the inventory and distribution systems of companies.
I really wish I could be more informative - but I can only say what works for me.

Actually, I just thought, no matter what you do

Another thing is: learn basic statistics if you don't already, because when you do that you'll understand how much trading is luck

Is that how to do trading in real life?

Not an answer I know but: I've been trying to figure this shit out for so long, there's a website called "tag the sponsor" or something like that which points out the _older gentleman_ who she's banging her and is bankrolling things- I mean nothing skeezy about that I don't judge... may December romance, they're both getting something out of it.
...but sometimes these bloggers honey pot the actual instagram whores into admitting (thinking the blogger is a customer) she'll fuck and be a human toilet for money: you have to question some of them, but some of those screen shots are too elaborate to be fakes.

However I think we're just in an age where they will dress like that (I use the verb 'dress' loosely )- purely to acquire social capital and nothing more. I know I sound like a white knight, but I think it's actually more depressing - they're not whores, they are seeking fame.

Paper trade first.

But generally there are a few rules to follow:
>Pick your time horizon, and know what patterns are worth following/not within that time horizon.
>Keep really good records of every trade you made and why you made it.
>Don't trade on margin.
>Don't trade your whole stack at once, maybe 20% at most if you are 100% certain. Less certain? Smaller percentage of stack.
>Dont panic.
