Ethereum shows up and reveals their smart contract concept. Big business cant help but look into it due to cost savings.
Enterprise Ethereum Alliance forms and then Big Enterprises figures out this could be bigger than they actually thought.

Big business is scared of getting rolled over by competition and within big business, the group who feels most threatened is the bank messaging collective still relying on fax machines. (SWIFT)
They still want to stay in this race of rapidly changing technology and stay relevant. They have become used to being the standard. What do they do? Make another standard and make sure everyone important is in on the ground level, in exchange for free access to the elite club through a few million LINK tokens OTC, via Sergey & Co and his solution.
What do they gain? A solution that will improve efficiency and 15% or more on operating costs. Run a node and get on board the decentralized network.
Market makers/traders usually look for an “edge” or advantage over others. The LINK network is their edge. Microsoft, Salesforce, SWIFT member banks, and the guys who were winning for decades win out and stay on top.

SmartContracts/chainlink was in the works since way before the EEA was a thing.
