As a disclaimer, this is not an attempt at brainstorming illegal ways to make a profit.

What I'm asking is, what are 'undercover' ways of making money? I was just reminded about selling marketing data based off of a social site because I saw a TV ad for a doomsayer. In this ad he tells you to go to his site and watch a free video. The way I figure, even if he's not trying to sell a package of some kind, he's making money off of site hits/ad revenue or something like that.

So what are other ways of making money off of things most people don't expect? Things like business operation and property ownership are obvious enough, but there's probably an entire unseen industry with this kind of stuff.
