What bank is the best for personal banking? And why?

credit unions

They give you better rates and don't have a profit motive like banks do.

Do most people on /biz/ agree with this sentiment?
I'm a college student, currently banking with Wells Fargo. I was interested in switching to an account with Chase because I feel if I do banking with them I have a better chance at being approved for one of their better credit cards in the future (like Chase Sapphire for traveling abroad).

Just find a bank that lets you keep your money in them for free and gives you a card to spend the money. Interest rates are gonna be shit no matter where you put your money.

I agree with him OP

Also, if you can get USAA, then get it. If not and if you dont mind doing online banking ally is not bad also.

This. I use Ally Bank and never ever have to pay fees.

haven't found anything better than the 1% or so on my ally account. i rarely leave my house too and wouldn't want to talk to a bank teller to get my money, so it works out well

I use Chase for checking. Seems fine. Plenty of branches and ATMs available. I try not to keep more than $2,000 in my account and put the rest into my brokerage account though, so I'm not concerned with the interest on their savings accounts.

I have checking/saving at both a CC and Wells Fargo. While my CC has no fees and cheap mortgage rates, they are only local (as all CCs are). I can travel anywhere and find a Wells Fargo branch. I use Wells Fargo for every day banking but keep my IRA, mortgage, and investments with my CC.

USAA if you are eligible. They are no bullshit and will not nickel and dime you.

I wanted to do BECU back when I was planning on moving to Seattle, but it never happened.
