Hey /biz/,
So a USA company I'm "working" for (no pay or compensation) filed 1099-MISC tax forms to employees in 2013 that had the wrong amount on them. Both the employee and the company filed those wrong amounts in 2013. My boss wants me to fix this error but he has no idea how to go about doing it.

Now, I'm not a business major, so I have no idea what the fuck I am doing either, so what the fuck do I do? Most of the information I find relates to 2015.

Ignore it, seek professional advice, or make the company fix it

We are the "company" that's suppose to fix it.

Not sure then, can you talk to the department who deals with taxes at your company? Also have you looked at the IRS website for info?

The company isn't that big. Really, it's ran by one guy from his apartment and he's helped by four other guys, none of them with any idea of what's going on. The IRS website only has information on how to file 1099s in 2013, not to fix errors. As far as I can tell, you can only fix errors for tax returns.

Just issue a new 1099-Misc and check the "Corrected" box.

The employee will have to amend their own return.

"Not my problem" would be a viable thing to say.

Even for 2013?

As far as I know, yes. The employee has three years to file an amended return, so he has plenty of time to file his 1040x.

Mistakes happen. That's what corrected form are for.

Does do the new issued 1099-Misc to the employee have to be from 2013?

>> No.716923

Yes, of course it has to be the correct year. Otherwise how would the employee know which year to amend.
