there are risks with each method but what do you prefer? should I do a 50-50 split?

Just get a trezor/ledger if your stack is sizeable. If it's less than the cost of a hardware wallet, who cares.

>> No.20384180

Bought on ed/binance until it was available on coinbase, then moved them all to coinbase.
Don’t buy the “not your keys not your coins” bullshit. The chances of you losing your stack by doing something stupid is much higher than coinbase being hacked.

There was a kid who created an account with a fake ID and accumulated and hosted his stack on there. He had an issue with his account one day, so he went to customer support, only to have them ask him for ID to verify it was him.

45K Link tokens are now out of circulation.

So, no, no I'm not fucked by you leaving your stack on binance. My linkies will be more valuable in time, after you lose your shit of course.

>> No.20385134

coinbase will report you to the IRS and any other government agency they can squeeze a dime out of the second your stack reaches $20k in value. plus by holding your crypto with them you're supporting their active efforts to destabilize and weaken all cryptocurrencies (cf. their acquisition of Neutrino, who claimed to be able to track Monero transactions)

>> No.20385315

Is storing your stuff in something like trust wallet better than on an exchange like coinbase. I'd buy a hardware wallet but rather not waste the 10 links

>> No.20385368

What's even the way to cold store your linkies?

>> No.20385471

>>20384086
I keep my 10k in a cold wallet because I've already gambled away 20k linkies by converting to BTC and playing on bitmex.

If you're super afraid you can store your wallet on google drive, and have 2FA enabled.

This. I swear my Ledger is the only reason I haven't FOMO sold my stack. Its just too much effort to send to exchange when I'm still confident in the project despite an inevitable dump.

>> No.20385945

I don't even know what a wallet is. Why can't I just trust coinbase in taking care of my linkies? Shit like this is why "normal" people will never buy crypto until some radical changes are made. It's always a doubt that your money is unsafe. You can't just buy crypto, have it on your coinbase account and be done with it. You have to keep it on 3 different exchanges + a wallet, whatever the fuck that is, and then MAYBE your crypto is safe. This shit should just function like a bank, where your money is 100% safe 24/7, instead of worrying about wether or not the crypto exchange (where btw you are a costumer) will fuck you in the ass as soon as you've made a few shekels.

I keep all my link on coinbase, i've made a pretty decent amount, however i'm constantly worried coinbase will fuck me and blame it on some chink hacker or some shit

I have 14k LINKs on Coinbase and about 6k LINKs on Binance because I have them as collateral for a btc loan I took back in march to buy a bit more LINK. I think that the "mtgox" argument is no longer valid since nowadays coins are tracked and addresses are blacklisted immediately. What do you think will happen when suddenly all LINKs on Coinbase are sent out to another wallet? Where will they sell the LINKs? You need volume to sell to BTC(then to USD) and that's only available on big exchanges that will blacklist the addresses. The security practices and advancements have evolved a lot. Mtgox was shady as fuck. Coinbase is regulated. So yea I'm storing mine on Coinbase because I'm sure there's a bigger chance of me fucking something up then CB getting completely drained. Also since I'm not a US citizen, I don't have to worry about getting reported to tax authorities. I am though a bit worried about Binance, but it seems like they are getting more professional with time. In the near future though I will be buying some secure device for the sole purpose of managing my LINKs, but again most likely I'm gonna hold some on Coinbase.

here's what I do: each one of my link's is stored in a separate wallet. I then encrypted each character of the private keys for each wallet using sha256 with a target difficulty of 17.35 E so they need to be mined using ASICS to be unlocked. the encrypted private key characters are imprinted on tens of thousands of plates cryptosteel. i then mailed them to hundreds of countries, and thousands of cities using sergey's random number generator to truly achieve decentralization.

Technically from an outside perspective all your multiple wallets based on 1 ledger ID are separate.
However if someone gets access to your secret code or can connect to your ledger HW directly with the pin code, he will be able to see they were all generated from the same seed phrase.
But I don't think a government can force you to reveal this code.
The main issue is that from a security perspective if someone steals your code you will lose everything.
