Not really a shock. He's pushing away allies and trade partners like no tomorrow. Renegotiating deals is fine, but push too hard and people will rather just trade with others. Especially since American physical goods on average is pretty expensive compared to quality.
China, Russia and Europe is currently working together to make a new silk road trade route with great infrastructure that will really help the ease of trade. So America should keep that in mind. On a side note, I don’t think lowering the income taxes on the upper brackets was the right thing to do. I would’ve preferred it if Trump lowered the taxes for the lowest two and then just eliminated incentive for poor people to have more children, stop tax dollars going towards abortions, trans surgeries, and eliminated DACA funding and federal funding of sanctuary cities (just going off the top of my head).
If the country is going to increase the budget, then we should at least keep the taxes more or less the same. Also, just introduce a new corporate tax bracket for small businesses and try to eliminate loop holes that don’t encourage reinvestment back into building the economy.

We do need to fix the issue now. Which means cutting back government spending while increasing GDP.
Both parties have suggested increasing GDP (ie the basically nonpartisan infrastructure bill).

We need to cut the spending back, way back. Then we can lower the taxes. Or do both at once.

Make temporary work visas easier to obtain for unskilled labor so we can profit from them. Because it's just a visa there's more incentive to just stay in America for work and leave later, as opposed to trying to be a permanent resident (an illegal knows they're gonna have a lot of trouble getting back in if they ever leave, in contrast).

Being part of the legal framework instead of the shady underground gives incentives to work with law enforcement and also makes it much more palatable among bleeding hearts to deport troublemakers.

Then the gubmint can use that tax money to help out unskilled Americans so they can find other jobs and don't have to compete with the Mexicans picking fruit.

Meanwhile the Mexicans can take that money they earn and invest back home, while still helping out the American economy. It's not a zero-sum game; everyone can win.

As of 6 days ago, Trump threatened to retaliate against China in the current on-going trade war with $200bn in tariffs.
