The market cap size for these companies already is inflated to begin with since it's understood that earnings now are sacrificed for significantly greater earnings later. And yes, normally a company with better than expected earnings will see higher growth. However, with the way the markets are these days, the opposite tends to hold true.

Just give up trying to rely on quarterly earnings and start looking at fundamentals. Debt load, CEO competence and future plans are far more critical long-term than quarterly earnings.

Look up what the "recovery position" is. I was a lifeguard for 3 years, and there's a special way that they teach us to position unconscious people so that the vomit can properly drain from their mouth and they don't drown in it.
I don't know if it's as effective if you're on your own though, since a lifeguard can at least monitor a person and make adjustments if there's a lot of it or they fall over.
