It will compete if even 1/2 of 1% of the population of the world kept a sky miner at home.

Which is fucking stupid and near impossible.

1 guy with enough fiber optic interconnects to the internet backbone can serve a city of tens of millions of people. if the same guy sets up dozens of wifi access points (essentially what a skyminer is) up on tall buildings with antennas, then yes 1 guy with a couple dozen sky miners can serve millions of people

>> No.9948540

we had this back in my day
a scammer would present an 'eternal energy machine' at an expo and sell schematics for an 'affordable' price to rubes, who would go home and build one themselves with parts from radio shack, only to discover it didn't work how it appeared to at the expo

there was a fun one in the early 80's where a fellow convinced several hundred folks in the eastern part of the united state that they could assemble a radar in their back yards and use it to track space debris or russian satellites - at which point they could call a 'secret government tip line', and receive an enormous cash bounty for the information

of course he had the supply of special parts they needed for their back yard space radars

YouTube alone stores about 15 excabytes of data.
If "1% of the world" gets a skyminer, that's 0.21 TB per node JUST FOR YOUTUBE (with a much worse up/download speed of course).
If we include the rest of the internet and consider that popular files might need multiple nodes for acceptable dl/ul speeds, we might look at 20 TB nodes (which still perform much worse than classic centralized servers).

If the scan doesn't fall apart within the next 20 months or so, you will.
Remember though that the people who invested 20k ETH into POWH also thought they could jump off before the sheme falls apart.

those aren't for data storage, they're for setting up the connectivity side.

you're judging 100% of the potential from 1% of the information, and assuming because you aren't aware of the other 99% that it doesn't exist.
