Somewhere down south would be your best option. Housing is cheapest in the southern states

I grew up in kenilworth IL, 20 miles north of Chicago on the lake. 2nd richest zip code in America. Median income of 250k and the cheapest homes are 1 milly.

You could live there on 180k a year. Barely. But you could.

So of course you can live in Chicago or anywhere on 180k a year.

Hoffman Estates here which is about 20 miles Northwest of the Chicago. As long as you're not living in Gold Coast I think you will be fine.

Personally I prefer the suburbs.

Dude do you think a top 5 richest zip code in America is in the country stix?

Google pics of kenilworth and the houses. Literally the most exclusive suburb in the country.

When we moved in in 1984 the real estate agent asked if we were Jews. No Jews and blacks alllowed...

Even tho the high school new trier is like 50% Jewish with 4 or 5 feeder towns into it

Well, that's a long question. Good weather, 24/7 summer, possibly ocean in close vicinity. I like ubereats, but I can live without it. Currently I work online, so I can rent whatever's cheapest. Financially I want to save aggressively, get a mortgage after current bubble pops, ideally acquire 2-3 properties in 8-10 years. Also to grow professionally and start earning more, which might require me to move to NY after all, at least from what I understand currently.
