Popular brokers for stock trading:

Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access

this portfolio long term will 400-1000% by 2020. Perhaps as soon as q4 2018. The following is just a suggestion

do 20% igc on the next low
do 30% hmny (or 100% today then sell the peak of the rally)
do 50% dare when it hits closer to a dollar again.

i haven't figured it out. seems a lot harder.
You could try shorting penny stocks, but low liquidity, and if they go bankrupt you could still end up losing money i hear.
then you could try selling unprofitable companies like Tesla, but you lose anyway.
then there was that time the S&P dropped 7 points in a day, but who predicted the right day correctly?
did anyone open shorts on GE. seems like that's the best kind of deal. Huge company hiding lots of warts, then they get discovered and you just short the trend.

Hi guys, my first post to /smg/ after lurking for two months.
You are talking on AMD, but what is your opinion on the shorting opportunity on INTEL? - from technical perspective it is just breaking down from a massive long term rising wedge, pic related.
I was a fag and took screenshot with my paper trading trying to hear your opinions (I am new into stock trading, decided to dedicate 1 hour each day to learning risk management, trading psychology, FA and mainly TA and + 1h each day for DD and paper-trade for 1yr before going in with my own money on InteractiveBrokers trading CFDs (I am europoor)).

thanks, about that willpower is what I noticed from reading of experienced traders. I believe even the best TA is only 10% of trading success (max 15%), risk management 30% (i also consider TA mainly as a tool of RM) and 60% of trading success is the trading psychology - "simply" this iron will to follow and execute according to the 40% (TA + RM).

I don't think you should completely ditch shorting as a complementary strategy after one bad experience. -Even the obviously best setup alone can wreck you if you do not have experience using it at least 10-15 times. -success will come with good setup setup + experience using that particular setup. Gain that experience with new kind of setup on paper trading, not on real money, that's the catch ;)

but I am just newfag

Here's my opinion on shorting:
On average, the market goes up.
If you go long, on average, you'll make money.
Thus, shorters are fighting a more uphill battle.
Additionally, true shorting (not put options) has unlimited downside -- you can lose more than the stock is worth if it does some shit like triple overnight.
This actually happened to some poor dumbass that shorted a company right before Martin shkreli took it over after hours.

iits a bit more calm than the others (which is nice, given how this week and last week have been), but its also much more established than many of the other plays. theyve been in the medical marijuana game for a while (and are well established there already), and have also spent a good deal of money (but not an insane amount like CRON) to make sure theyre ready to rock when legalization goes through.

its a similar play to CGC (the big one right now), but it hasnt had all the positive press that canopy has had, so theres a good deal of upside left (imo)

its priced in so far as its not legal yet. once it IS legal, companies like CGC and APH.CA are gonna soar, as theyre already established in the game and theyve also been spennding a LOT in order to make sure theyre ready right out the gate. im steering clear of the more speculative ones for that very reason though. i think their gains will be underwhelming compared to the bigger compnies like aphria that ALREADY grow and sell pot in a medical context

Is it really my fault? I explain in simple ways sometimes. TSLA was very easy to predict. If I used the same strategies as anyone else i could explain it but I don't. I have to play this game from a unique competitive advantage (up over +50% since 2018 began.)

>everybody is actually going to get fucked for not longing gold and forgetting money is going to flow into bonds.
this is exactly why im wary of going short on bonds into the rate hike. theyve already experienced some serious downside recently and have since recovered. a rate hike (which will jack up yields) will make bonds even MORE lucrative for investors. TLT has bee more volatile than the major indexes lately. that tells me all i need to know desu

>he doesn't know about the FOMC meeting
not every wednesday tho. and i only ask cuz ive ALSO noticed bonds tend to wilt in the middle of the week and then get bullish at the beginning and end of the week. was wondering his reasoning

>he has no idea what happens after the federal reserve carpet bombs the bond market with billions or trillions of dollars of cheap bonds
and i think you may be failing to understand that while bonds have been a relatively useless asset class for a while now, with a couple more rate hikes, they wont be any longer, as the yields will be back. thus, if the yields get high enough, and equities look shit enough, TONS of money will flow back into bonds. perhaps even enough to keep them afloat against FED FUD

lel naw. we ARE getting a hike tomorrow. the only way i see bonds getting a SERIOUS hit is if they announce plans of being more aggressive on hikes in the future. or any such hawkishness.
>Yeah, the bonds will suck cash out of equities, but I'm not planning to time the calls on TLT for that, just my exit point on the puts
and this is why i think the FED will likely have a vested interest in not smashing bonds into dust. they know how much money has left our market (the way chinese stocks are ALL mooning, while ours are fluttering around going nowhere says it all. they all went over to chink land for the year). this isnt a huge problem for our economy. but everyone (including foreign central banks) dumping US treasuries at the same time would be catastrophic. they have no choice but to try and let it down slowly (as they clearly still need a dump or the yield curve will invert).

like i said before, its pretty hard to tell what the central bankers are gonna do as im fairly certain they dont know what the fuck theyre supposed to do in this situation either.

I want to apply my mathematics background to stocks and economics.
The more I look into it, it seems they're very much related to Calculus

You have basic securities and stocks

then you have stocks and funds which generate their stocks and funds from the basics. This is analogous to the Derivative in Calculus.

theoretically you can keep creating more and more funds in a hierarchy (though not necessarily wisely) who derive their funds from other amalgamated funds tracking other funds and stocks, like 2nd, 3rd... nth derivative of a function

Lam (LRCX) could make a good reversal, will see where it sits at the end of the day.

GIS overall may have switched to bullmode, i'll look for a reversal to the mean as an entry point. Same goes for MO and BMY, although out of principle I will only short MO. But I also want to make money, so maybe selling a put spread is a good compromise.

Chevron may also pop a little bit tomorrow.

Twitter has a little room for correction, but not as much as you think.

AMD is on its linear regression line and doesnt look to reverse soon. You could probably safely buy some ITM calls (at least delta .7 and still make a few buck on this run). I'm weary of AMD though given all the people talking about it, usually that means short it; but the tea leaves show the meme is strong.

Maybe, but the buying momentum of this last run is way lower than all the previous pops, I think it will lose steam as the buyers panic at the first drop.

This run is being fueled by short sellers covering and trying to short the top more against some buying momentum, This spikes prices very fast on these meme stocks. Once the room is full of buyers and no sellers, everyone will start to panic as the bid steadily drops.

Don't know when this will happen but probably this week given how fast things escalated here. The interesting thing to note that if TSLA ever crashes hard (something below 255) Elon will get a margin call, oof.

It's time for the Lunchtime Checkup!

What're you eating how're you doing?

I'm having an Italian chicken salad with extra carrots, it's nice. I'm up a fat 3% and it feels great, BGFV is making me hard along with ROAD and my SVXY call. A lot of commotion at work today. Some mental patient has been picking pieces out of his memory foam pillow and has been flushing it so the plumbing is BTFO and shits everywhere.

I figured it out yesterday. You don't bet on companies, you bet against the flaws of humanity. Seems like the best way to make money as a retail investor since you never really get the opportunity to be "smart money" unless you have serious VC connections. The tech doesn't matter at all, just how people "feel".

It's a bit more complex but yes I want upside on the overvaluation patterns I see. Why and what do people overvalue is what I look for. In Telsa'
s case it's the psychology of waiting.

If I sit in a line for 2 hours it's the worst experience of my life. If I get a headache it's the worst minutes of my life. Until it's over. Then I completely forget. I don't remind myself every day "You don't have a headache today, you don't have a toothache".

With Tsla, the headache is about to end, hence the stock ballooning. Everyone will forget about the past 8 months and love the numbers.

There is more reasoning behind it exploring as much of the thought space as possible.

I'm not going to be concerned with stocks for too long as it's not what I like to think about.

We will see. Even with KeyBancs revised estimates, TSLA still isn't hitting the promised 5k target when you cross reference it to the Bloomberg VIN registration data. If I had the money, I'd buy way OTM puts or short the stock a week before the end of the quarter.

im thinking this as well. it seems they (OPEC) WERE trying to crash it down somewhat, but they didnt anticipate iran stepping up production, and they DEFINITELY didnt anticipate SAA teaing up with the kurds to trade oil with one another. now they have no choice but to raise it back up again, or get fugged by assad and khomeini.

What's your strike price? Wti is expected to gap up to its natural range in relation to Brent and opec. The 10 dollar price difference won't last. It's supposed to be within 3 to 5 dollar dofference. The Vienna meeting is June 22nd and personally I don't think they're gonna up it by much, Russia needs the shekels and the sauds are having financial issues still as well, plus aramco coming in 9 months tops. Between this and wti Permian basin having logistics issues should help it gap up in about 3 weeks to catch up to its natural range. Just hang in there bro I'm hurting too but well make it.
