you choose an occupation and enough money to start a small business. you gradually build up your business, hire employees, open more businesses and trade with other towns.

in the meantime, you find a wife, have children, and there are random political machinations you need to deal with like being accused of crimes or dealing with rival families.

its really a limitless game and every time i play its a different outcome. You can also be an rogue who pickpockets, steals, robs, murders, runs a brothel etc. you can make money faster but your chance of being executed is higher.

they're idiots, its literally one of the best game series ever made.

they are either giving it bad reviews because of bugs or they dont understand the genre. I have played all 3 in the series, and Guild 2: Renaissance is the best (hundreds of hours played). Part 3 may eventually become the best but currently a beta and still needs a lot of work

i found the trick is to get a family member as king or whatever is head of the council
retire them out of the family
then keep 3 senpai members going.
When you get a new batch of kids (always have at least 3). promote people into concil and retire them.

So basically you can control the entire city.
You want to keep one of your live characters as magistrate. for sure
use the other family members to make claims against other families
done.

just finished the campaign, took about 9 hours. not too shabby and there are still two maps to play afterwards with a third one "coming soon". i assume that these three won't be 9 hours each but together they will probably add at least 9 more hours if they keep my interested with a non-sandbox story
