IF you have your EOS tokens on a exchange you won't OWN that share of the EOS genesis block, the exchange will. It's hard coded in a eth smart contract so it will be immutable forever. You won't be considered for airdrops that use the token snapshot so it's up to you I guess.
If you want to be part of the launch with your own address (and be given a brand new eos address and keys) you have to register your tokens BEFORE 1st June.

Let me repeat this: BEFORE 1st JUNE
Because the token snapshop will be the next day.
