I'm basically asking if it's straight gambling or if I can expect to make more money reliably.

I know risk and yield are directly proportional, but there has to be a reson people play the stock market. It isn't the same as waltzing into to my local casino and putting $400 on black, is it?

Stornoway diamonds is a company that operates sporadically. Essentially, they mine a well evaluated area of land and then move on. Currently, Stornoway has two initial phase projects that will began to mine and sell diamonds relatively soon 1-2 years. However, the stock has been bumping up at a steady pace for over 3 years already. The current phase is the last one before the mine officially opens. Once it does, It is more likely that the stock price will reach into a couple bucks as opposed to it's current $0.76.

There's risk but if you work at it, and it is work to do it well, it's much less risk than gambling. Even a play it safe portfolio will typically beat the interest you'll get by placing it somewhere else, even with taxes. If you're beating a savings account or a CD with your investment, which is pretty easy to do, it's worth it.

I was hoping for something cheaper, but you should just put in a stop loss at this point about .10 off the current price. Then move it up as the stock goes up. That way you lock in profits pretty much. I mean you bought at .28 and it's up to like .99 now. So stop loss at .89, and if it goes up more then move your stop loss.

>>965877

Nothing I guess, though most biotech companies stock prices start high and start to tank as the trials go on. This is because it's risky stuff and takes a lot of money to do those trials, and takes a long time to get the results. Look at XOMA. Since 2011 it's a downward graph even through they are moving to stage 2 of their research and based on stage 1 are expecting fantastic results.

The thing is, most stock prices are influenced by how much profits they posted in the last quarter/year, etc. But with biotech companies it's the opposite, their stock prices are influenced by emotions and how much POTENTIAL profit people think they can make in the future. So keep in mind when biotech companies are just starting out and doing their phase 1 trials the stock price will be falling because people are emotional and no one knows if it will work of not. People get scared and sell at the drop of a hat with biotech companies which is why their prices usually drop even if they are having good clinical results. It's not until the company moves to stage 3 or 4 that we see the price start coming back up. Better to wait a while and buy in a bit later as the price is guaranteed to drop while they sort out the risky part of it their clinical trials will be successful or not.

So I've successfully sold shares in $SIRI and $HART for a profit. I was trying to hold them longer and set stop losses and accidentally set limit sales and they sold because I'm a n00b, either wait though I made money from them and that makes me feel happy inside.

$SIRI bought at $4.07 sold at $4.14
$HART bought at $1.50 sold at $1.74

>Current Portfolio
50 shares of $AEZS bought at .0408
2 shares of $TCPI bought at .84
10 shares of $MSTX bought at .386
10 shares of ASTI bought at .128

The strategy is for them to go up! herp

But once they're .05 or so above to set a stop loss to hold profits. I will move it as it goes up and won't be upset if it sells as long as I make a profit.

I currently deposit $10 every week in to my RH account($20 total) and my account is worth $20.36 now. Waiting on money from the sale of $SIRI and $HART to come in which will probably be Monday and Tuesday, and then another $10 comes in on Wednesday.(UPDATE: Account value up to $20.42!).

>In October, XOMA struck a licensing deal with Novartis AG (NYSE ADR: NVS). The deal included a cash payment of $37 million in return for global rights to one of XOMA's antibody programs and a $13.5 payment due to Novartis in September 2020. The exchange helped improve XOMA's cash flow, but it hasn't been enough to make it profitable.
>The company's last earnings report was also a disappointment.
>XOMA's latest net earnings filed Nov. 6 from Q3 of this year were at a loss of $14 million, compared to a loss of $29.6 million in Q3 2014.
>XOMA's failed phase 3 testing for its former flagship drug, gevokizumab, sent its stock plummeting from nearly $5 to less than $1 in July. Since then, the company has restructured its research efforts to reduce costs, but it still hasn't diversified its experimental drug offerings.

you are selling shares you dont have right now, but in the future when it comes time to cover the deal, you will buy the shares at market price.

here wait let me copy paste something i saw on /pol/ today describing this in a nice simple way
>>>/pol/56192651
>You decide tires are going down in price.
>Go to the tire shop and ask to borrow 20,000 tires.
>Immediately sell the 20,000 tires you borrowed (somehow you had a buyer in waiting for 20,000 tires)
>Since you borrowed the tires from the tire shop, you still have to give them 20,000 tires back
>During all this, the price of tires triples
>Tire shop calls and asks for their tires back
>You were hoping to buy all those 20,000 tires back for really cheap, as you thought the price of tires was going down. But now you have to pay 3 times more since the price of tires went up.

None in the short term. The only way I can imagine any benefit is if you are comfy waiting 10-15 years on the off chance the Greek banks get nationalised into one big malo bank, which then gets tuned around. That happened in Iceland, but Greece ain't Iceland.

The only reason you would hang on that long is to gamble on an IPO in 2030 or so.

when he decides to close his position

example
its monday and I decide to short 10 shares of a stock
current price 100$ so I borrow 10 shares from the broker and then he sells them for me to 'normal' traders who are buying right now. he gives me the 1000$ from the sale.

friday rolls around and i want to get my money out of my account and into my pocket. price of mcdonalds stock is now 90$ and I owe my broker 10 shares. So I take my 1000$ account value, and I buy 10 shares at 90 for a total of 900$. The broker gets his 10 shares back and hes satisfied, and I come out with 100$ profit.

So its not like a contract where I have a specified date. Its just when I decide to close the position.

Little late here getting back to you but I do like to come here for stock ideas. I don't buy everything these bellends suggest but it's a nice basis for things to look in to.

I really like the amount of stocks that are talked about here and feel any other source on the net is probably being paid to talk about those stocks. So I come here for stock symbols to look up and research and occasionally you'll get a poster who gives a decent stock for you to look at.

For instance my $HART buy was from someone here suggesting it.That so far has been my biggest profit gain from an investment.

>Find a stock.
>Read about the stock.
>Check the numbers.
>If nothing looks bad yet go for it and see what happens.
>Don't be afraid to make a profit and don't be upset if you don't make as much as you could have made. You made money and that's all you should care about.

Stock trading seems to be more of a hobby than a legitimate avenue to success. The only sort of investing that isn't just a form of gambling is long-term investing.

If you're willing to risk it with penny stocks - yeah, why not. 1.36 is quite a good price. It can go back to 1.40s even on Monday, although many expect it to climb back to 2.xx by December

Look at the graph. It's been lower, it's been higher within last 5 days. Nothing unusual going on right now. Quite normal fluctuation for a penny stock, just calm your tits
