Yes, its called "spoofing" its a form of market manipulation. This whale has a shit ton of BTC. He wants to buy a shit ton more, but the market isn't liquid enough, he would drive the price up buying. So he uses the BTC he has to put up a huge sell wall, or straight sell if he thinks he can dump it down enough to make it look bearish. Then when people see the dump, or they see the huge sell wall they start to sell. Thing is he is actually accumulating while he has the wall up. If you look closely those big walls rarely every get eaten much. There is always a few orders just in front of it.
