Seeing the things running on Loom SDK makes it look like ethereum has pretty successfully scaled already..

Has ethereum scaled already? Does it even matter?

What metrics could we look at to know if they had scaled?

Block time, or something more complicated?

>In order to run interactive applications like Reddit or Hearthstone on the blockchain, it’s important from a UX perspective to have extremely fast block times. No one wants to wait 15+ seconds to see their comment appear, or for their opponent to end his turn!

>Since ZombieChain runs on DPoS, we’re seeing sub-second block times on average (interactive demo coming soon)—making it an ideal place to host DApps that require a fluid UX and high interactivity.

I don't think it has anything to do with modifications to the ethereum network, more just this network is more efficient

"transactions per second" seems to be the only metric ever mentioned

is this just a clone of steemit on ethereum then?

Well yeah, that's the whole point. You run dedicated Dapp sidechains (still secured & fully interoperable with regular Ethereum Dapps). Eventually Ethereum itself will get a bunch of upgrades too, but it doesn't really matter, Loom & ZombieChain are awesome.

1st app to deploy in a couple of months when they drop - Etherchan......

transactions per second are linked to 2 things:

- Rate of block processing (blocktime)

- Block size

But things do get a little more complicated when things like "extra layers" come into the picture, like the Lightning Network with bitcoin.

or the side chains.. like Loom SDK

I think you're right in saying side chains are a layer on ethereum's base layer.

But I'm unsure if Loom, itself, is actually a side chain. It seems like it's some kind of "platform" to enable the creation of side chains, on the ethereum network, which specialize in processing data which aren't financial transactions (which most block chains are currently about).

https://loomx.io/
>What Are Loom Network DAppChains?

>DAppChains are full-featured blockchains that are built to run in parallel to Ethereum Smart Contracts. They’re an advanced form of Ethereum sidechains optimized for scaling data rather than financial transactions.

Loom seems to be something which can allow for the creation of these application specific sidechains.
