eBay General Thread

hi /biz/
Currently I am roughly 30 items from being a top rated seller. I plan on selling refurbished iphones and video game consoles. I plan on having free priority mail shipping with a 14 day returns. However These items will be slightly over priced. But they will show up as best match right? So rich eFags will purchase right? Also welcome to any ebay store expansion tips and tricks. Thanks

iPhones, and video game consoles.

Literally two of the most risky items to sell on eBay.

Prepare to get scammed left and right, especially if you offer 14 day returns.

As far as best match shows, with those items it'd be really hard to tell.

Also, are you BUYING these on eBay? Be careful about getting scammed BUYING on eBay, they will revoke your buyer protection after awhile.

>>945095
Well in my whole ebay carrier I've sold items in these two categories.
Currently I don't use the returns... But im still debating whether or not to continue using them
I buy these items from craigslist and wholesale.
Also I've got a separate account just for purchasing items to avoid just that.

>> No.945108

>>945070
Also another thing. Should I leave feedback after a purchase or after they leave me feedback? If I leave it before someone might bitch about the item and leave me negative feedback and leave with my postive feedback. idk.. feel dumb for asking, but it must be done i guess...

Actually looking to get out of selling on eBay. Been lucky to dodge scammers so far but the place is just so full of poorfags. I really don't see how you're going to make a buck peddling used phones and consoles.

I used to sell on ebay. I imported airsoft stuff from china for like £10 and sold it for £40. Sold a few £100 worth of items a day. Then it fucked up and lost it all.

Started it by repairing phones in school. iPhone 3G and 4 screens loved to break. I fixed them for a decent amount. I then started to buy and sell peoples phones on ebay as well as buying ebay phones to repair and sell on. Had a few problems. Someone managed to sell me a stolen phone that I sent to mazuma mobile (UK) I didnt get paid for it because it was stolen and sold to me with a faulty signal by a business seller that ebay refused to investigate. Also have had some black niggers in london nearly get away buying a few iphones from me. Although police got involved and they were arrested. I was under 18 at the time and jewpal have been holding a few £100 from me and refuse to release it to me. Top kek.

This was a few years ago, so may people doing it now It's not worth my time/risk/effort to do it. Was a baller in school though.

tip I always click on price lowest + p&p when searching.

- Top rated seller.

Buyer advice time.

I bought as 6000Lumen Bikelight on Ebay recently. Of course it never ever reaches 6000lm, not even on the max wattage of the LEDs. Sellers have a tendency to exaggerate specs.

Question: Can I get a refund based on the fact that the Lumens are a gross exaggeration and are an false item description was provided.

0/10 and listing multiple items through the app is a pain in the ass.

I actually can. Modern high end smartphones have accurate luminosity meters plus I have the spec sheet of the leds. I measure 1400lm max and the spec sheet reads 2600 at quadruple the wattage the orbited battery pack can deliver.

This means the seller can make no excuses. Not even "muh max power spec".

However I asked this because I knew 6000lm was literally impossible and every seller on eBay exaggerates. I knew how good the light was beforehand and that it wasn't going to be as advertised.

So this is purely an ethical matter of me fucking over a gook for 24bucks.

"Contents : KKK clan with pitchforks and torches."

On a side note.

I bought a phone from a business seller on ebay.

It had a "faulty signal". I thought I could repair it and re-sell.

Send it to a phones for cash. They don't pay me because its stolen, they wont give it back and they give me 30 days to resolve it on my end.

Cant return on ebay as it was no returns accepted (Spares and repair)

O2 say they can't release any information because its protected under data protection

Ebay agree to offer a refund. But phone recycling wont return it to me.

Time runs out.

Find a forum that deals with the collectibles in question. Advertise there. Offer item for 10% cheaper than it sells for on ebay in same condition for cash in person.

Collectibles are nice to deal with because they're generally too obscure to be worth a scammers time. The person knows the value of the item. They are more likely to pay higher than value for convenience.

Got an old grain grinder in an auction once for about $75. Sold to a guy locally for $300 a week later. The guy was nice, ended up hooking me up with a bunch of nice shit for cheap that I sold for a good profit and I have a go to guy for anything farm related now. Usually pays cash for stuff. Plus he has a lot of old guy friends who collect the shit and acts as a middle man for me for no charge.

Your buyer can file a claim saying that you shipped them only one parcel. Most buyers don't, but some will just because they can.

Send them separately if they don't say otherwise, you don't want anything...blowing up in your face.

Happens all the time.

Message them if they meant to order two.

If the item is worth less than $50, then 90% of the time it's because they want two, else they would have asked to cancel then ship it together. Most buyers prefer items shipped together anyways.

If the item is worth more than $100, then I would ship separately because USPS priority mail (which I assume you are using because $8.25 postage) has insurance up to $100 each package.

Hi, forgive me, new to selling on ebay-ish, now the offer this guy has offered me is acceptable, and he has 100% feedback rating with (51), the issue is...well this.

Were these people who left him feedback retarded, or was the ratings modified?

Should I trust this guy, as I assume we know top feedback is most recent, 6 months ago infact.

And what could be the harm if I agree to the offer and he doesn't pay, just a waste of time?

Could he just shit out a bad rating if he doesn't get his way?

Should I cry like a bitch and just decline the offer and blacklist him mentally?

I want to sell more than playing cards but not if I'm gonna cop flak for it.

It's called a False Negative

Most sellers will put "Neg" within their comment, but as you can see, these ones are pretty new to how it should be done.

Sites like these:
http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs

Will pickup the false positives by checking for the "Neg" comment within the feedback.

To answer your question about what happens if he doesn't pay, nothing...
He won't be able to leave you a feedback and his account will be marked yet again with an unpaid item strike.

But seeing that he has all recent feedbacks as false negs, I wouldn't accept...

Seems that way, I'll decline him tomorrow after I put up new listings seeing how I got a regular who's after very specific stuff off me, could go off ebay but...the boost in ratings may help for the future.

Which leads me to another question, does it look dodgy if most of my feedback is from the one guy, I mean shit made triple digit sales off the nice guy but from his personal order list (he just asked if I had and I told him I'll update according to his list).

Also before you ask, trading cards are the bulk of my sales currently so lots of individual ratings flowing.

>> No.954060

If you plan on going off eBay (Paypal->Paypal), just make sure the buyer isn't shady and you're actually going to sell to them for the price you agreed on (or even lower). Most buyers will report you for going offline when they find out you won't give them a discount (since they know you won't be charged eBay's 10%).

No point for a buyer to ask you such a question unless there was a problem with combining the shipping price on eBay. Just don't get caught doing so or you can be suspended. Even sending your email through eBay messages is blocked by a filter.

lol and hell yea, some idiot could get eBay on the phone saying that you're manipulating your feedback. But your feedback score shouldn't even be going up after the first + the buyer left, unless of course he bought it on separate days. Either way don't worry about it since you have other feedbacks from single orders.

Hrm, well I used to see my merch on a social media group but the movement was so slow, it seems this guy wasn't aware of it despite it being the main source of news in our country (it has a small gathering, its kinda niche), though I'll remain on ebay to be safe.

Well how its working is I put up listings on mondays, all buy now or best offer (sometimes multiples of said item), he buys his stuff from the individual listings (he bought 5+ cards last time) and he pays quite quickly, I send them out and its all good for both of us (I don't charge shipping if local though international were these would really sell worries me, local post wants $20 for tracked shipping despite it being letter sized items and basic non-tracked mail is $3, surely must be a way to guarantee I'm sending them while keeping post cost down but that's all they offered me at local post).

So some dick may come along and just nag because one guy is buying 5+ items at a time and because very few people are picking at them, infact other than who we've initially discussed only one guy guy bought anything off me and it was a single order.

I think I'm the only one here that uses Stamps.com, it's a great program but I hate it as well.

You could spend time printing 30 packages, then check your eBay and the data would never be posted there. Don't know why this hasn't been fixed in all these years. >>955077 Pretty much why I only print 5-6 at a time, or else I'd have to copy/paste all the tracking on all purchases if it didn't post back.

The only option out there that I know of that's better is ShipStation. It will allow for you to keep track of your sales easily. Mostly everyone uses that since it's so simple, and works great.

The other ones like InkFrog are decent, though their shipping system is shit.

I'm looking to move onto Endicia, but that's only because my shipping is increasing everyday, also I like their "Unused return" labeling system.

All these sites will let you integrate your Amazon/eBay accounts so you don't even have to log into Amazon to ship.

It works for anything you would usually drop off at the post office. Just have the appropriate postage on the packages you'll be sending.

You can also have your packages picked up from your house (by your regular postman) for free.

You just have to set it up on the USPS site or whatever shipping program you use. Just know for pickups you have to be shipping a Priority mail or international. Just a reminder. It is illegal to put international packages and packages over 13 ounces that aren't identified into a drop box.

Identified packages are ones that can be tied to you. Meaning if you print a label online it is fine. If you put stamps on it, USPS will assume it's anthrax or a bomb and return it to you.

You can schedule a pickup online. Mail carriers are required to take all paid items but some will refuse unless you schedule a pickup. Just ask your postal worker when they deliver your mail if it's fine.

I used to do the same. Now everything that isn't explicitly flat rate or media mail goes Fedex no questions asked. UPS has been giving me many problems lately with hidden charges and lost packages so I'm given up on them.

On a side note...

Has anyone used eBid? Selling fees are only 3% and there's no limit on free listings. The only thing is that you have to pay upfront subscription costs but they have a $50 option for a lifetime subscription.

>UPS has been giving me many problems
Do you mean USPS?
The rate I got from FedEx Ground is $3 cheaper than eBay's expedited Priority Mail. I think I'd be better off with Priority Mail. If I print a label through FedEx can I drop that off at any post office? Or does it have to be a FedEx location?

It has to be a fedex location.. Or you could scheduled a fedex pickup from your home

No no I meant UPS, the United Parcel Service

Post Office never gave me problems but they're too expensive for what I normally ship, beyond what I can fit in a flat rate box.

I used to hate Fedex because of the way that I used to receive packages, all beat up and torn. But then I learned it was because of the way the box was packed; too much empty space. Now I ship more through Fedex than the post office. Customers don't like it but they normally do not want to pay the extra $10 for UPS, or the extra $20-30 for the post office.

>Haven't sold ANYTHING in over 48 hours.
>Have over $10,000 inventory.
>Just switched PayPal accounts in eBay the other day.

Did I fuck something up, or are people just not buying?

This hasn't happened in months.

I'd love to come across an office or business just giving shit away. A lady in a Facebook group recently was given permission to take pretty much everything left over at an estate of a well off couple because the children already took the things they wanted. Imagine getting almost all of a persons non sentimental possessions. Electronics, sound systems, high name brand clothing you name it, this was a mcmansion they were clearing out.

If you have a Walmart in your town check for late super savings on Halloween shit. Bought over $300 of stuff for $30, 90% off.

I've used/use eBid.

Signed up with the $50 deal straight off the bat I think a year 1/2 from now, sales were shit because eBid didn't start advertising until June of this year.

Literally since eBid has been up, they never advertised on Google, you had to do it yourself.

Sold pretty well, then it stopped, then picked up.
It's a decent site but don't plan on making any sales...

>Just switched PayPal accounts
lol

Anyways, it has nothing to do with the switch.
The sale would still go through and the buyer's payment would go to some other seller.

It's just that time of the season for whatever you sell I guess...

There was one of those recently near me, up in one of the wealthier suburbs of Chicago. Tenure'd professor died, kid wanted everything not of sentimental value out.

I'm talking antiques, books, decorations, etc. Shit worth tons. We were in contact and I was just about to rent a 14' uhaul and buy a ton of big boxes until he said that he was donating it instead for the tax break.

I was pissed, I lost out on like $15k.

No but really though, I could make up some fake random email that's not even registered on Paypal and a buyer could still checkout.

I can later on add that email to my paypal account to get the funds...

Like he said, China is/was looked upon as a 3rd world country, so to increase their "economy" United Nations tried to help businesses grow and reach other countries. I believe this was eBay's idea as well...

China is no longer viewed upon as a 3rd world country so expect changes soon...I hope

0. low quality products (we sell $20 hoses which cost $2 to make, and the boss still wants to sell them even with a 30-50% defect rate. I think I already told my helmet story here as well)
1. exchange rate, and that's by design. the communist party deliberately wants the yuan to be undervalued so that companies are rewarded for being paid in the dollar.
2. chinese are prefer high volume, low profit margins

If I remember my shipping options on eBay right you have
USPS Priority Mail, cost is wt/distance
USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate at $5 for envelopes, $11 for Md, $16 for "Lrg"
USPS First Class, ~$3 for under 14oz
USPS Media Mail, ~educational materials/open to random inspections
FedEx Ground, value for larger parcels
FedEx Smartpost, the cheapest option, maybe the slowest
FedEx Overnight (etc), for emergencies etc, pricey

USPS priority mail (1-3day) rates cost depending on the location. Within 100 miles is the base $5+1 something which is awesome, whereas cross country can get expensive ($10-50). Florida is always expensive for whatever reason.

FedEx ground or FedEx smartpost are the alternatives. FedEx ground we usually expect to cost $20-30 for regular sized parcels, and smartpost is the low cost option, which takes fucking forever for delivery.
