You get a basic 1D/1M/6M/1Yr line graph for each individual stocks & one overall for your portfolio gains/losses. I believe it is limited to NASDAQ/NYSE stocks. You have the option to buy/sell at market price, limit, stop loss, & stop limit. The standard $0.02 fee for certain sales still applies. The app updates stock prices about every 10 minutes. And everybody uses a cash account, no margins. Meaning you have to wait about 3 days for deposits/sales to settle in your account before you can use the money from them.

If you want to play around with it & try to learn with low startup, use google/yahoo finance with it. If you're going to actually invest a decent amount of money, start using sites like Morningstar for analyst reports & such to help you choose.

Because if you're smart you'll find a financially secure company like MSFT with expected future growth. You'll then look for general price ranges in their stock and try to buy when it's near a low point as opposed to a high.

If you don't research your stocks you'll just invest in NGB/ASTI/etc & spam these threads with "GOING TO THE MOON" or "I sold all my stocks the same day I bought them for a 10% loss & my gf keked me!"

The market isn't a gamble or not a gamble, it's all about the approach. One can make anything requiring smarts, skill, and information into a contest of luck. All one has to do is approach it as an idiot (pick blindly, follow anonymous tips, etc). It can be profitable as fuck though, assuming the approach is disciplined.

Dont get memed. Do your own research and invest long term. Pic related. My performance over the last 9 months. Ive only sold COF at a loss of about %4. My newest position is PYPL I think it has an enormous upside and could chart similarly to MA and V after their IPOs. I got into PSX and VLO when oil was getting pounded. AAPL trades at a low PE and with all the cash on hand they have it has huge dividend potential 5-10 years from now. I bought V pre split and have made a killing. I like V and MA because I think digital/paperless transactions are the wave of the future and there is huge growth potential in that sector. VGR is a tobacco stock that pays a $1.60 dividend a year plus 5% stock dividend. Im currently researching and devising a plan to invest in big tobacco now on the ling term speculation that marijuana will become completely legal within 15-20 years. I sometimes trade GOOG, AMZN, and NFLX on earnings and have made a few thousand of that this year.

Invest in companies you personally believe in is a good starting point.

Example for me recently.
>Netflix($NFLX) down 10% after earnings report shows growth, but not expected numbers for domestic
>International numbers growing
>Buy at the low of 99.98 almost 3 weeks ago
>Now 114.

Also $NVDA and $MSFT same thing happened.

However it doesn't always work
>Believe in SSD and flash based storage
>Intel($INTC) and Micron($MU) joint venture into a new type of memory 3D XPOINT
>See $MU is at a low and decide buy expecting value to rise once people catch on to the benefits of the new tech
>$MU continues to drop over 14% over the past 3 months
>$MU see quarterly results and see the stagnating revenue $MU is Crucial's parent company.

Same thing happend for Fireeye ($FEYE), thank goodness for Stop Loss I had placed or it would have been huge setback.

However I am still holding 3D Xpoint won't see consumer versions for at least a year, but even then it takes a while for the market to create itself if it does.

Yeah, lots of choices.
Just remember that if you don't have the time or energy to constantly be watching the market (most people don't), you're really better off investing than trading.
For most people, moving their positions around generally weakens the portfolio, probably because they trade on emotion.

As for emotion, I kind of tested myself with the last bitcoin spike. I had friends pushing me to buy at $380 and again still when it was $470 and I was starting to really want to but I decided I'd wait until the next crash and see. I mean like they were really emphasizing buying, I was listening to it daily and I was able to block them out.

>>953923
I guess I can work with the big ones and work my way down. I bought FB on the simulator at $90 or something. It's up to over $100 last time I checked. I didn't really put a lot of thought into it though.

Do you guys do Forex at all?

>> No.954140

>>954114
This is a good example of how the market affects ones psychology.
Since your leverage is weak (10 shares of FB), you are drifting toward items (like BTC) that can provide a massive return. You may also be considering the reverse: stock so cheap that you can expand your share count 100x or so.

>> No.954141

>>954140
Both are good in their own right, correct?

>> No.954147

>>954141
Unfortunately, no.
I can't speak for BTC, that's a vehicle that almost no one understands. But you would be buying 2 or 3 on the assumption of a surge. At most you pull in a few hundred dollars. At worst, your money is tied up indefinitely, perhaps at a severe loss. Or looted entirely.
Penny stocks are avoided by the majority of traders. The fact that they are not listed means that they don't have to disclose shit to buyers, and you are unable to short them, because no one is stupid enough to take the other side of the trade.
This is why "pump-and-dump" schemes are overwhelmingly penny stocks. The perpetrators know that's where lack of transparency and poor investors come together for maximum profit.

>> No.954386

>good to buy bigger successful companies
It entails much less risk, though still plenty.
No one is worried that Procter & Gamble or Apple will collapse tomorrow, so you wouldn't have to worry about shitting the whole pile. But the average swings of the market can drive things a good distance in either direction, especially if there's a crash. If that happened you would have two (bad) choices: Sell at a loss, or have dead money stuck in the stock until it recovers. Since penny stocks tend to be fly-by-night companies, nobody on the street bats an eye when they go belly-up, (happens all the time) taking all the stockholders money with them.

>> No.954394

>there's a catch
It really depends on how you're looking at it.
If you're just out to have fun and treat the market as a casino, trading on tips and whatnot, RH will work (although at a significant disadvantage to you).
Serious traders (60K+) would avoid, however, as RH's inability to trade on margin or in the pre/after market are deal breakers.
