It has now been over 24 hours since difficulty adjustment and if it continues at this rate BTC will die.
Just quietly. Still not guaranteed.

block speed constantly below 0 hashrate
keeps dropping and BCH quite stable at
14% total hashrate.

Ok, are we nearing a point like that, where miners would abandon BTC?

Why couldnt BTC release an emergency patch for that?

>> No.9382238

>>9382200
That would be a hard fork. Exactly what core has been saying is ebola laced uranium for over three years. They would lose all credibility of they did it, and the present miners would also simply not support it. Only option would be to emergency hard fork unilaterally to change the pow, but miners wherever they fork too might just fuck them anyway, and wherever they go they will have enormously objectively less security from pow.
The only thing I don't like about this is that the price drops and rises don't add up. As far as I can see it shouldn't be happening, but it very much seems to be happening anyway.

Yeah I don't buy the "hash power = price" thing either.

It's definitely a scenario to think about. Has there been any indication from miners that they would do this? At least in part? I'd have to assume they wouldn't just switch over and effectively kill BTC within an hour, that would be a disaster.

They definitely have always operated in the way this depends on, hashrate follows profitability. If it's more profitable to mine bch, that's what they'll do. Thing is right now it *doesn't* seem to be what's going on... It's weird. Maybe just statistical variance, but I've definitely never seen the difficulty readjustment this high for this long before, and there is a bch upgrade coming Monday. Maybe they just decided now is the time with the upgrade and the difficulty adjustment and the btc dump all at once? Maybe the BCH dump at the same time is just not enough to stop them following through.

>>9382318
this chart gives BCH 0 work done prior to the fork
which is just a point of view, the other stats are facts
