I've actually been wondering if it's a good time to make a natural gas play.

I think looking out a few years natural gas prices will be pushed down. A number of US LNG export projects come online in 2020, allowing US natural gas to be exported worldwide. Also by that time US domestic crude production will have responded to higher oil prices (I don't think US production will be a major factor until late 2019 at the earliest because the last four years of low oil prices resulted in very low levels of infrastructure investment, and it will take some time to get up to speed). A lot of the shale fracked for crude produces natural gas as a byproduct. My expectation is that all these US producers will be getting basically free natural gas (breakeven price for extraction of natural gas in some shale formations is literally a negative number) and will have these new LNG facilities to export, so the US will turn into a major natural gas supplier in the early 2020s.

In the mean time though I'm wondering how long natural gas and crude prices will continue to correlate. A crude supply squeeze is expected in the next year unless the Saudis decide to change their plan of pumping prices before the Aramco IPO. I'm not 100% on it yet but I'm feeling like this winter might be a good time to play the seasonal demand for natural gas.

My tvix I've been bagholding is dragging me down, but I feel bad selling it at such a loss. Down about 40 percent. Wondering if I should just cut it and reinvest into something else or just say fuck it and keep it
