Hello, brainlet here

Do you make more money keeping a position open for a long time or by closing and opening new ones. For example: say bitcoin goes from 9k to 7k, would I make more money if I opened a short at 9k and rode it all the way down or should I close at every area of resistance and open another short with the new profits added on?

you're taking on more risk and there's no guarantee it goes all the way down. Getting stopped out in profit is better than opening a new position and then immediately being underwater and down.

Depends on timespan and amount of leverage....they charge fees for opened positions 3 times a day so if you are highly leveraged it's a problem (fee muktiplies with amount of leverage)

Reinvesting your profits by closing in the middle can also make you lose more, if you go back to the start and close there you won't be breaking even and also your liquidation zone has moved.
But why would you want to pussy shit like that?
