What are your opinions about traveling?

Does it make you happier? Is money spent on traveling lost or is it a "good investment", as long as you just use a small percentage of your networth for it?

Asking because my gf wants to travel the world with me, but I am unsure if I should just buy more cryptos with it instead of go traveling with her.

not a meme. I have traveled a lot and they remain some of my best memories in my life. It refreshes you, gives you perspective, and traveling a gf or wife makes it that much better. But everyone is different, so you may not feel the same once you have done it.

It's somewhat a meme in that you're gonna find yourself I think.

But it's fun, I recommend doing it solo and then with a good group of friends.

>> No.9281682

It's a great life experience, especially if you throw in some adventuring in some non-tourist areas.

agree. dont you think the op may be restricting himself by taking the gf seeing as he will meet loads of attractive foreign hotties who will want to get balled by him?

I've great memories of traveling, it's more of a fun experience than LE DEEP PROFOUND CHANGE normies have you believe

Bottom line is if you're a terminal autist you're gonna be miserable anywhere

>> No.9281737

It really depends. Do you know how to travel? If you're the type of guy to just throw money at the problem traveling is a bit of a meme IMO - you'll get turist raped everywhere you go and being a smart guy you'll not like it. Wanna eat out? Here's a shitty dish for $20. Wanna enter this museum? Here's a ticket for $40. Want to move around the city? Rent a shity car for .. well you get the idea. Also I hate using planes, so there's that. I am only happe when I'm self sufficient, without transport I don't feel that way anywhere, so yeah getting a van or an adventure bike is my idea of travel that is not a meme.

i can easily spend $5k/month doing nothing (i'm single, live alone) so i can imagine how that could easily be 10 on the vacation.

Traveling to tourist trap cities to spend money on food and booze is retarded. Being a fat ass foodie is the most cucked hobbies to have. In NYC you will spend $200+ per day at a minimum, shit a hotel and cab ride put you over the limit.

Last year I did went t Gates of Artic National Park to see the Caribou migration. I pushed my self to my limits and it was so rewarding. Beautiful area and total relaxation. Getting there wasn’t cheap but sure beats any touristy beach town. Use your vacation time to travel to remote areas and get away from society.

>In other words, books like The Hobbit are not necessarily supposed to inspire trips to far-flung lands, but rather to restore the freshness of familiar surroundings right in front of our faces. Once you discover this doorway to realms beyond, you’re able to see the world through a mythological lens, and find that there are hidden dimensions even within the walls of one’s hobbit hole. Once you’ve been there and back again, your perspective is forever changed; you begin to see things as they really are. Everything from the view outside your apartment to your commute to work can become more meaningful, even magical.
>That Tolkien could step through this threshold whenever he desired, his otherwise bourgeoisie lifestyle notwithstanding, is what set him apart from other “hobbits.” And it is what accounts for his obliviousness to the allure of physical travel. As one of his biographers put it, “his imagination did not need to be stimulated by unfamiliar landscapes and cultures”; that he could simply sit down at his desk and immediately begin exploring the terrain of Middle-earth explains why he “did not altogether care very much where he was.” For Tolkien, his domestic routine, no matter how familiar, remained perennially fresh.
>Tolkien’s immersion in his imagination did not represent an escape from reality, but a reacquaintance with it. He saw clearer than most the way in which even the most ordinary life is filed with epic quests, wrenching conflicts, and the heroic choice between courage and compassion, and greed and selfishness. So that despite the “narrow” scope of his life, one cannot help feeling it was far more expansive than those who fill their Instagram profiles with photos of their globe-trotting travels.
>What Tolkien understood is that when it comes to life’s most important journeys — quests of spirituality, self-discovery, and self-mastery — location is irrelevant.

Sperging from one hostel to another, with a whole bunch of degenerate `travelers` is good for maybe a week or two, depending on how old you are and how much pussy you are getting.
But my preferred method is to rent an apartment for two weeks or longer in a city and chill. I like art and architecture and new foods though. I find different cultures and their history fascinating.
If your idea of a holiday is to get shit faced every night and piss off the locals, you may as well do it in your hometown.
I now have friends and contacts in a handful of countries, and that completely changes how you can appreciate a place.

This anon is correct. You might be interested in the essays of Schopenhauer, where he examines this very phenomenon.

>The world in which a man lives shapes itself chiefly by the way in which he looks at it, and so it proves different to different men; to one it is barren, dull, and superficial; to another rich, interesting, and full of meaning. On hearing of the interesting events which have happened in the course of a man's experience, many people will wish that similar things had happened in their lives too, completely forgetting that they should be envious rather of the mental aptitude which lent those events the significance they possess when he describes them; to a man of genius they were interesting adventures; but to the dull perceptions of an ordinary individual they would have been stale, everyday occurrences. This is in the highest degree the case with many of Goethe's and Byron's poems, which are obviously founded upon actual facts; where it is open to a foolish reader to envy the poet because so many delightful things happened to him, instead of envying that mighty power of phantasy which was capable of turning a fairly common experience into something so great and beautiful.
¨
TLDR: Traveling is amazing, but what you will get out of it depends on your perceptiveness and degree of curiosity.

Feelings are a meme.

if you're doing it just for passport stamps and pics to share online it is a waste. Travel for specific activities or things to see if you can. Even if the specific goal is to just get lost and see old churches. Don't turn into one of those hostel fags with an acoustic guitar and dreadlocks just living in the moment. Also don't chase passport stamps and feel like you have to always go to a new country and have to see a certain amount of new countries a year. That will drain your funds.
