Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

It won't even buy you a tiny flat in a half-decent city

With 160k you can buy 100 AMZN shares and then you sell covered calls against them
Last I saw, even the slightly OTM weeklies are trading for 15$, which gives you 1500$ per week, or 6000$ per month or 72k$ per year !
Even if things are not that rosy, you can reasonably expect at least half of that, and I would definitely be happy lhaving 3000$ income per month.

If you are a retired grandma, do whatever trading plan they suggest. If you're like, 20 and make decent money you should attempt to trade on a whim, after several hundred hours of research.

Now is a tricky time to start buying stocks and bonds. I'd stick 90% of whatever money you have into a money market or short-term US treasury bond instrument and play with the remaining 10%.

For a real gut-check, buy shares in MNK. If you can hold it without vomiting, you might just make it.

Real bondholders buy bonds for $10,000 at a time. You might look into whatever credit union or bank you brokerage with money market account. MM's are always simply mutual funds that do nothing but buy short-term bonds, ususally treasury bonds. This has the net effect of +1.68% interest, less than inflation, but better than it sitting in your checking account.

Stocks are portions of ownership (and control) of the corporations that issue them. Shares have real value, independent of the price you might see the for sale on the stock exchange. Remember this is a legitimate ownership of a real business, even if you have 1 share and own the equivalent of an office chair in that business.

Bonds are debt. You are loaning money for an agreed amount of interest and an agreed date where that principle you offered is repaid. The key is buying debt below it's face value. So, you are offered a bond, at 5% interest, for 10 years, at $1000. It's NAV is $1500. $1000 + 10 years of payments at 50$/ year.

Higher risk investments yield higher returns (when they return). Typically in order of least risky to most risky it will be:
Gold/commodities>Bonds>REITs/Mutual and index funds>Blue stock>Pink stock/crypto

Most investments fall into one of these categories unless you start looking at special securities or CDs and shit. Some people make a killing in stock, some people get shit on. My family was in Enron heavily. We were and now I am diversified across all of the above to mitigate risk. Typically as you get older you pull out of the more risky shit and start to go into less risky shit.

If you want bonds, I'd suggest short term treasuries like T-Bills. I've got $2500 (face value) in the newest US 4-week.

You could always go to www.treasurydirect.gov and place a non-competitive bid on something. You get your bill/note/bond at primary market prices, and will always get face value back. You'll get a coupon, a semi-annual payment of stated interest, if you buy 2 year notes or longer term securities.

There's a weekly auction for 4 week bills every Tuesday. If you get your bid in early on Tuesday, you are almost certain to get something.

And before you go and think you will get a 1.665% return after 4 weeks, that's annualized. Real return after 28 days is just over 0.128%. Better than a savings account, but still shit.

Real magic is when you trade those bonds. My Canadian taxes are going to be a mess next year and my wife will hate me for it, but if I've read the tax code right, I may be able to claim a capital loss and still make profit on trading 4 week bills as long as I dump in a couple of days.

Anyways, short term treasuries are exceptionally safe. As long as they are not Egyptian, Venezuelan, or Ukrainian mind you.

Ukraine is alright for bonds, unless you really think they'll be annexed by Russia. Problem with foreign gov't bonds, especially emerging market debt, is they have zero incentive to pay you back. If it's better to not pay you and take a hit on their 'credit score' they will do that. They'll default even if they have the money, because fuck you, and good luck getting your principle back.

Anyways, Ukraine is fine, but you're right about Eygpt and """v*n*zula""" though.

Canadian tax code is a mess.

Here is an example straight off of the Canadian Government website:

"Example
Logan bought a T-bill on May 1, 2017, for $49,500. The T-bill's term is 91 days and its maturity value on August 1, 2017, is $50,000. However, he sold it on June 13, 2017, for $49,750. The effective yield rate was 4.05%.

Logan calculates interest on the T-bill as follows:

Purchase price x Effective yield rate x Number of days T-bill held ÷ Number of days in the year sold
= Interest to be included in income

$49,500 x 4.05% x 44 ÷ 365 = $241.67

Logan calculates his capital gain as follows:

Proceeds of disposition − Interest = Net proceeds of disposition

$49,750 − $241.67 = $49,508.33

Net proceeds of disposition − Adjusted cost base = Capital gain

$49,508.33 − $49,500 = $8.33"

I will either pay pennies on the dollar in tax or register a slight capital loss (which I can carry forward until death) on every trade and still make profit.

2. A phone book of broker-dealers
3. A phone

Thats not adjusted for inflation probably. The premier sovereign bond for 2019 (AA19) is currently trading at a meager .74% IRR.

https://trading.portfoliopersonal.com/CotizacionesItem/775079/3

The longer duration bonds though, those have really big yields (above 8%), and are dollarized, but are definitely not risk-free as much a I wish they were. AA37 for example.

The CRA is going to scrape here? I understand the IRS... Besides, the "TFSA" (Tax free "savings" account that already has government regulations regarding trading out of one) is completely legal and was introduced by the government a few years ago in a federal budget; 2011 I think. I'm not too worried.

These cases are few and the only penalty is to pay the tax that is owed. In one case, the guy had to pay just over $100k in tax; he also made over $900k trading out of his tax shelter.

The thing about being a trucker... I'd hate to do it. And other truckers on Canadian roads are maniacs; student-visa Indians who don't know how to drive and plow into building and infrastructure like highway overpass pillars. I'd honestly take 1000 of Elon's monstrosities than one student-visa wielding Indian in a highway truck.

i used to know this lady that would steal hundreds of thousands of dollars of tvs from best buy. she would go stand outside of one of them, smoke a cigarette and wait until she saw someone walking out with a big box. when you buy a large product, they give you a "paid for" sticker and slap it on the side of the box so you dont have to dig out your receipt and drop your new tv on your foot.

what she would do is wait and see which color the stickers were that day and then walk in, find the most expensive tv that she could carry out of there, slap a sticker on there and walk the fuck out. she would cycle through the best buys and had a shit ton of disguises. was pretty cool honestly. she would turn them around on the internet at like 3/4 cost but listed as brand new and sell them in a day or two.

you wouldve been disgusted with me when i was 16. i was such a little scamlord.

we used to do a similar scam back in high school with those /b/ coupons like 11 years ago. i made some coupons for free ps3 controller, headset, accessories etc. then i told them that "sony had sent me a replacement controller for the one i had on warranty, and IT was fucked up too". i even photo shopped a little description saying how they were "manufacturers coupons" and that they were "like totally legit bruh, now hand it over". pretty fun. felt like i was a jedi or some shit. robbing a store right in front of them.

i remember one time we decided to go for the big one. the whole ps3. i swapped the plates on my car with some junk ones that were on my friends moms car. even had real hair wigs for when we drove out of there for the parking lot cameras. we got 3 of them in one day from the walmart, k mart, and best buy. sold two, kept one (i miss that one too, it was the 1st gen one that was backwards compatible).
