What is a life that you have in your mind that is actually a possibility? What are your goals that are realistically attainable by you?

AKA
>no 3 penthouses
>no 2 lamborghinis
>no $50,000 watch just because you can afford it
>no muh escorts nd muh cocaine
>no tasteless tacky "I watched The Wolf Of Wall Street and.." bullshit

It is absolute trash and 999/1000 of us will be extremely disappointed and misguided throughout our lives if we think this way. Ignore any trolls or morons ITT that act like what I'm saying is strange when the fact of it all is that this board is all shills and misguided nutters that aren't grounded in reality. Ignore it all.

This is a thread where we discuss true, realistically attainable goals and aspirations.

It would be wise to keep in mind that this life shit is about the journey. It's not about the destination and all of the goodies you can get out by the end of it.

I don't know about all of you, but unless you have a death wish and don't respect yourself, looking back on your life wondering what in the hell you actually did with it at all sounds depressing and I don't want to end up like that fool.

>be almost 22
>making 1300€/month

My plans are:

>Buy a reasonably nice flat in the city to live in for at least the next 10 years (already in the process of requesting a mortgage for a flat worth 35K)

>Get a better paying job by mid 2016 - for the work I do, I should be able to get at least 1700 once I've got a couple years on my resume.

By 2025 I plan to have either the flat paid off and 60K in the bank, or at least 80K in the bank and still 5 years left on the mortgage - I'll decide if I want to pay it off early depending on how the interest rates go.

>This is my turning point.
At this point, I'll decide whether I still want to live in the city or move out already.

Whichever way it goes, my goal is to retire by the time I'm 45 and buy a house out in the mountains.
I want the most remote house that money can buy, literally in the middle of a damn forest.
I want to have at least 20-30000 m^2 of land (which is A LOT by our standards, Italy being a small and overcrowded country).

The majority should be reasonably hilly forest, and, if possible, a couple thousand of flatter land to plant a garden, some fruit trees, and raise some livestock.

Fuck computers and especially fuck city life.
I've been working in IT for 2 years and I'm already fed up with it - I'll kill myself before I get to be 65 and still working in an office.

Also, the way the state pension program is going, by the time I even get to 65 the retirement age will probably have gone up to 75 or something.
I honestly think the fact we're forced to join the national state-managed pension program is a robbery and a scam.

Anyway, I also don't get why someone would want to retire in a dreadful box in the middle of a sea of concrete.

I so dearly wish that here in the U.S. Social Security was opt-out. If I just took my SS deductions and put them in a retirement account, I'd do just fine. The problem is, 85% of the population is incapable of saving on their own and would just opt-out of SS and use it to take out a bigger car payment. The problem with the Italian social security, instead, is that it is a massive, gigantic, titanic Ponzi scheme.

The only reform meant to fix this came in 2012, which means that right now we, the young workforce, get to enjoy being at the transition point.

At the end of the line we will get none of the benefits the boomers had, but we still have to pay so they can be payed the golden pensions they retired with at 50 years old.

Also the system is set up as a fascist corporativist system where not everyone is treated equally, but rather there are different managements for different classes of workers.

tldr your mileage may vary.

regardless, i think it's a very mature thing, considering our options rationally

i think /biz/ much like the rest of 4chan is populated mostly by college age kids, some more or less well-adjusted, some less so, and we're all sort of in this transitional period where the world isnt this endless horizon of possibilities like it was when we were kids and its a good thing to take what it really is into consideration, it shows maturity on our part not to feed delusions of insanely bright futures anymore

it's tough though, growing up, becoming adults with reasonable expectations, admiting that our options are limited, and not only that but also confronting that truth head on instead of just pretending it isnt there, distracting ourselves with petty causes that we have no business undertaking

Think about it this way: Bachelors with 2 years of experience is far superior to a masters degree with no experience. Plus, you throw out another 2 years of earning potential and probably need to take out more loans (Graduate school is very expensive, even at public universities).

I'm 23

My goal is to have $50k by May 2016 (I have about $38k now). And long term, work for 20 years and retire with a pension of $35k a year and $1.5m+ in investments. That would put me at age 43, leaving me with plenty of time to enjoy retirement. I'm investing heavily and working on some side businesses which I hope will generate some revenue and allow me to retire with more money, or sooner If I choose.

After retirement, I might transition to seasonal work, like truck driving for 3 months a year, or driving a snow plow during the winter. Something like that would be fun I think. I'd like to own a nice cabin in the mountains some where, and maybe have an apartment or condo in the city too.

A slightly more off key goal is to buy pic related. It's about $5k

1 year goals
Get Drivers License

Get Decent paying job to start saving for moving out

2 year goals

5 year goal
Have a career

I'm like extremely malleable to working conditions. I've never missed a day of work or been late to a job. I've never had problems at work. I've never had problems with authority and I could deal easily with being a wage slave. I basically never talk when I'm at work but I don't get particularly flustered or have problems interacting with coworkers and customers. I just basically have nothing in common with most people I meet so I keep to myself.

The fun in my life is fueled by anime, warhammer 40k, and tabletop RPG's and video games.

My main five year goal involves being independent so I can enjoy these things without guilt. What are some careers that suit this style of life and play to my strengths?

Frank: You get up two and a half million dollars, any asshole in the world knows what to do: you get a house with a 25 year roof, an indestructible Jap-economy shitbox, you put the rest into the system at three to five percent to pay your taxes and that’s your base, get me? That’s your fortress of fucking solitude. That puts you, for the rest of your life, at a level of fuck you. Somebody wants you to do something, fuck you. Boss pisses you off, fuck you! Own your house. Have a couple bucks in the bank. Don’t drink. That’s all I have to say to anybody on any social level. Did your grandfather take risks?
Jim Bennett: Yes.
Frank: I guarantee he did it from a position of fuck you. A wise man’s life is based around fuck you. The United States of America is based on fuck you. You have a navy? Greatest army in the history of mankind? Fuck you! Blow me. We’ll fuck it up ourselves.

The "Fuck You Money" that you need to enter the "Position of Fuck You" is different for each person, but always try to move ever closer to that position.

I'm building up a career as an academic musician. Right now I'm a brass specialist (meaning I play horn, tuba, euphonium, trumpet, etc.), I compose and conduct. My goal is to be an orchestral conductor, not necessarily renowned, but to just make a living exclusively out of conducting instead of having to work in three fields of music just to get by.

Then maybe, if the workplace continues being this shitty (working in academic music where I live is depressing and just horrible), and I get enough savings, I want to open a cultural cafe. I'd have the walls covered in bookshelves and people could come to discuss the books with me or each other. I'd cook and make coffee and whatnot, though it's quite likely that if the business goes well I'll end up having to hire someone. Then I'd bring over small jazz ensembles, string quartets, or play the piano myself or some other entertainment. Host poetry readings, debates, invite young authors.

> inb4 faggot/stupid dreams

Yeah, they may be stupid, and economically speaking, I know the café is quite likely to fail because it isn't the most profitable of ideas, and I'll probably end up conducting some shit-tier orchestra. I don't care. I love what most people call "high culture". I also study philosophy, classic languages (ie latin and Greek), and I'm trying to learn economics, though that's mostly from books, since I can't afford to study it properly @ college or some shit, so I can learn how to manage that cafe in the future.

Ahhh, feels nice to talk anonymously about a dream I've never shared with anyone! Good to get that load off my chest.

I am a lawyer. My wife will soon be a doctor. We are both 28y/o.

Our goals are to both work part time, enjoy our hobbies in the off-time, have a nice custom-built house in the mountains with beautiful scenery, and have some dogs to play with. We like to own good quality stuff, but aren't into paying a premium for premiums sake, and don't buy a bunch of shit just because we can, so most of the other stuff is a pretty minor expense in the long run.

My personal expenditure goals include a nice road bicycle, a nice offroad bicycle, a good computer and stereo, good quality kitchen tools (knives/pots/pans/etc), and good quality backpacking/mountaineering gear. Most of this I already own and will just need to be replaced over time as it wears out. All of these items can be easily achieved with ~$3000/year in investment, so this stuff is pretty negligible in the long run.

I would rather spend $500 on a single high quality watch that will last 10+ years, than buy 7 different $5000 luxury watches that I can wear each day of the week. My day-to-day suits are around $500-700 regular price, which I buy on sale (for about $300/suit on average) and then have tailored, because barely anyone can tell the difference beyond that anyways just from looking at it. I own one $1500 suit that I bought for our wedding - and I made sure it was a style that I could use for other purposes as well where I aim to be my absolute best (job interviews, etc).

Neither of us care about getting 'rich' unless it furthers those basic goals, even though we could be relatively wealthy if we wanted in our professions.

>> No.930120

I created a tool to assist me in profiting from arbitrage between eBay and Amazon FBA. I spent like a month learning Python (never programmed before this) before finally finding a freelancer from Tunisia who decided on Java and PHP, who doesn't seem like a very good programmer but now I have something that Kind Of works. When I view scraped data, I can find items that I can buy on eBay and resell for a profit through Amazon FBA. I have an employee I pay under the table to ship things out to Amazon Fulfillment centers for me from things I find at thrift stores, but a couple thousand dollars into this application that is being developed I dont have the money to buy and flip my finds.

I just want this thing to work, I don't plan to become a millionaire or something because I think it is unrealistic, or it is realistic and I try not to think about it because financially it is possible but I fear that being optimistic about my expected returns is stupid. In theory, I could make a couple thousand buys a day and with a 6% conversion rate in sales, it wouldn't take more than a couple months to really make the money I want even through all 4 quarters of the year. I expect to make about 50 buys a day which would mean I need startup capital of $36k for inventory which doesn't include my other overhead. I make $20/hr in a factory working 60+ hours a week, but saving up $36k is almost impossible, surprisingly.

I think even if this fails and I have to liquidate my inventory, I think my bi-weekly payouts from Amazon would be enough for me to live on when paying my bills and using the rest to find items at places like Goodwill and other thrift stores to flip for a profit; which I actually seem to be good at. When you have a family, it makes the "safe" choice to work my shitty long hours on a shitty swing shift schedule at a factory as a temp the better choice for taking care of your family.

Many ways, really, just depends which one gains more traction first.

>Start group training people down at the local park, charge $15 for 30 minutes
>Most people I could train at once is 20, that's 20*15=$300 for half an hours work, do it twice in one day and I've had a $600 day.
>5 days a week for a year, that's $3000 a week or $150,000 a year for 5 hours of work a week
>Eventually hire a trainer to do the classes for me, paying them ~$50 per 30 minute session, and pocketing the other $250
>Hire more and more trainers and repeat the process
Alternatively:
>Build my online business
>Release a multitude of products, ranging from diet plans to exercise programs (with video instructions and demonstrations)
>Sell them on my site, building organic traffic as time goes by, and also paying for traffic myself
>Build social media account, insta+fb+twitter+youtube, etc
>Funnel them all onto my website, make sales
>Start affiliate programs so people can sell my products and receive 100% commissions on the front end, but only 50% on the back end (where I make most of the money)
>Depending on the price point, the number of sales, and the number of affiliates, $1m in ~4 years is definitely achievable

I've got many more ideas that I'm going to start implementing at the start of next year (when my degree gives me the qualification to do so), so until then I'm just getting as much experience in the industry as possible before cornering my local market, and expanding globally.

This is so damn true. I remember browsing 4ch when I was a freshman in HS and it seemed like basically everyone was my age too. We would go to school, come home at 3:00pm, play with friends, and shit talk and really didn't have a care in the world. Most people here fondly reminisce of those times and today dream of becoming NEET as a way of going back.

Now, I've graduated college and am in my second year as a wagecuck and feel like so many others are in my shoes here too. It's kind of a beautiful thing in a strange way. Like we are all in a Saw movie type torture chamber of wagecuckery, but we're here together and helping each other try to escape.

Mortgage free by 40.
I'm already on my way to this. I set £200 aside per month to make payments off my mortgage. Online calculators estimate that I'll have paid my mortgage off by the age of 39 (I'm 24 currently). My salary should only go up from here as I'm breaking into my career path (software developer) and my biggest expenses are only going to go down (car insurance and bills which can be split if/when a partner moves in).

There are two things which would hinder this goal:
A) A golddigging succubus.
B) Needing to "upgrade" to a more expensive house.

I think I've got the first one of these covered, since I was more or less the accountant in my last relationship and I'm good with money. The second feels like it shouldn't be an issue (my current house is a 2 bedroom terraced, spaceous and in a very good area. I could raise a family here without qualms).

Anyone care to tell me this is unrealistic?

As someone who went to university, let me tell you that it doesn't change you as a person unless you really strive for it to. It made me really depressed for about 2 years of my life and it's a tunnel I'm just about getting out of. A degree might open up some doors, but you can make a lot for yourself with some ambition and career direction coupled with the enthusiasm to get the skills/experience needed to make it happen.

My advice to you is to think hard about a career you'd like to pursue. Think of some of the higher positions in that career path and look at the pre-requisites. Find out what positions you need for those pre-requisites and work backwards until you have an entry point you can either currently do or learn how to do.

(This is career advice I was never given and I squandered several years learning it the hard way)

They will and they do.

In fact, my own little brother goes to an after school class which is essentially just group-training, and that's $20 for 30 minutes with about the same number of kids.

Also, at the gym I'm working at, they run multiple circuits/bootcamps/boxfit classes every week and charge anywhere from $10-15 per session, all for 30 minutes.

Maybe it's cheaper in America, but it's a pretty average cost here in Aus.

My goal is to be my own boss at the age of around 30/35. I want to build up a solid company that allows me to buy a decent sized house in one of the more respectable suburbs of my city, and a car like a Mercedes Benz or a BMW. Essentially I want to be upper middle class.

I'm still working out which field to start my business in, and then I have to spend a significant portion of time learning about the job. Something I'm considering is event hire. I've done a bit of work in it before, and it seems like a fun enough job.

A little more unrealistic, but if I go with running an event hire company, I want to try and run it out of at least a few cities in my country (Australia). I want to at least be worth (the equivalent of what is currently) $5mil by the time I'm 60. I think that's achievable.

I want to build a 4 story pyramid in my backyard. I can't imagine it requires a great deal of architectural skill to build a mayan type step pyramid. I can buy up to 20 tons of bricks from china for as cheap as 2 thousand dollars. I buy those, flatten out a big space, build a little scale model and then you just have to start stacking bricks and put mortar between them.

Then at the end I'll get some brick paint, mix it with sand and make the whole thing look like ancient limestone.

Then I'll eat my dinners up there and look down on all the peasants like a king.

It should only cost like 4k but it'll take a lot of time.

I'm most interested in B2B SaaS, vidya (although that is a really tough market right now), and real applications of synthetic biology. Even if I fail I will try multiple times, since I wanted to be an entrepreneur for as long as I remember.
>A small house once the market is unfucked.
>Good and intelligent friends.

Luckily none of these seem entirely realistic.

To pay off my student loans.

On a serious note I want to simply purchase a small house in Hokkaido and work there. After finishing the JET program I've been thinking about nothing but going back to Japan. I'm going to try and pass the JLPT N1 this December and we'll see from there.

Either try to get into a Japanese university to get my masters and/or PhD in Mathematics or just try to find a mathematics related job in Japan. I don't really want to be a teacher since I already do that now and turns out I hate kids.

Work as a sales rep/tech for big telecom jew in stroe. Make 40k a year plus benefits could make more.

Soul draining retail sales 11-830pm+ every day 5 days a week. Can't find another gig even close to the pay. Only have a 2 year degree.

Id be comfortable with a non general public job making 50-70k a year working 9-5 5 days a week with weekends off. Rotating schedule is fucking horrible and working every saturday/sunday is killing me slowly for the last 1.5 years.

I mostly troll /biz/ as I value loving what I do over getting rich, but I guess I'll do a serious post for once.

>20's
>Currently working retail & living with parents.
>Budget of $200/mo for cell phone, clothes, and incidentals all together; still have leftovers most of the time.
>Put all but that $100 per paycheck in savings. Leftover from $200 budget at the end of the month also goes into savings.
>Packing lunches; making coffee at home; no booze/cigs/weed - only one I'll do when I can afford to is booze anyway

The plan:
>Save $20,000 (should take about a year, maybe a bit more, if I keep up the way I do now and no emergencies happen)
>Move across country and attend first year of prestigious animation program
>Pare down on worldly possessions until I have enough to fit in two carry-on bags and one large suitcase plus as much clothing as I can wear and still get through customs easily
>Can leave any bigger stuff (furniture; easel; retro vidya collection; desktop pc) with parents and have it shipped later if I decide to live in the city near the school
>Thrift shop almost exclusively except for things like underwear. Wal-Mart and other bargain stores for anything I can't thrift. Parents buy my toothpaste and soap and the like + groceries
>Working retail at the moment; using free time to work on my drawing and 3D modelling skills & portfolio
>Rent room in house instead of suite/apt/dorm. Did this before and shit was cash. Literally.
>Save any money I make while in college to fund next year
>In summer, work and spend only on rent, food, and Netflix
>Hopefully make enough to do all four years consecutively; if not, work until I can afford the next semester at least
>Hopefully get job and keep being frugal so I can afford all the moving that being an animator involves. Keep few possessions for this purpose.
>Hopefully make decent living in the animation & film industry - maybe one day, have enough to buy a house innawoods with a nice big yard and a couple dogs

This is the kind of lifestyle I want but people give me shit for it all the time. They almost seem shocked that you don't care about buying things. "Wait, you don't want this new gadget that will be outdated in a year?" I am not lazy either. I work hard to earn money but put a good amount towards savings to opt out of our shit society someday. A lot of these dream lives with multiple cars and useless items are just disgusting, at least to me.

I am a bottomsucking warehouse cuck atm, late 20s. I'd like to get a real 'career' but have no idea how. I think I'd settle for moving up the warehouse ladder and make a reasonable salary. I don't want to live in the city for the rest of my life, although rural areas will make job prospects difficult.

I own a couple of small companies in Norway that make me a good deal of money. I employ 25-30 people in different categories of "to-do".
One of my companies made 200,000 NOK last month by selling imported airwheels ( 35,000 usd ).
Another idea i had was ordering different products and making sportsteams and school groups sell them and keep 50% "project" money. I have 10-11 salesmen scattered around the country and i think we had 60-70k USD in "project" money this month. I actually come from nothing and i want a ferrari soo bad and i think it will be possible within a few years.

>> No.939535

Thanks man. We import all kinds of stuff from asia and so. The highest earning companies are actually "national" if i understood your question right. We keep it within the borders. Im 21 and i started my first business when i was 16 which we later sold for around 90k USD (720 000nok) when i was 18, so ive always had an entrepreneurial spirit and i have used alot of time choosing paths to where i actually am now. I love doing all kinds of stuff and i love coping with different people all the time but it has not been a silk all the way ofcourse.

This is cool as fuck.

Even though it's hard work you won't regret it, you're already making more than most. Keep on keeping on man.

I'm halfway trough planing my own business, delivery of a niche type of sweet bite size food that is pretty much unknown where I live. mid 20s btw.

Married young so I don't have to worry about chicks since we're together for almost 8 years and it's only getting better.

But one of the realistic goals would be to finish a MAS or MBA before 35.

The market for my planned business is unpredictable so it's a 50/50 chance of success. I'm already prepared to accept defeat and work like an asshole for another higher paid asshole trough my peasant life. But I will never give up on having my own thing.
