it's not that much better here in the UK actually, occasionally a doctor starts a private practice and earns a fairly large amount from it, but if you're working in the NHS you will never be earning more than low 6 figures, and will be working 60+ hour weeks. an engineer in a specialist field or in middle management won't earn much less while working a much shorter week, with far less stress, as an example. not many doctors have the opportunity to go private here.
