Well actually it's beneficial for crypto as a whole, BTC included, if every coin succeeds. Ideally we want people moving from FIAT into Crypto, regardless of the coin they decide to bet on. Every coin will moon if given enough time and faith. Even the ultimate meme shitcoin DOGE managed to 10x a few months ago. Yes, even retarded memecoins will have legitimate, full-fledged moons in 2018.

Not really, the number of altcoins is mostly irrelevant. The top 10 altcoins alone already have a combined marketcap higher then BTC. Prior to 2016 pretty much nobody took altcoins seriously. Hence even Dogecoin could reach top 5 with a 91 million marketcap.
