It's obvious there's a private gitter at the least because Jordan Bonilla accidentally posted out of it into the main one, and it just makes sense there is one. Whether or not they've invited people from outside of the main team is still a question.

I think it's likely though that they have invited outside people into it. Work is either ongoing in a private gitter or in a private slack channel with outsiders because if you've noticed people like Jonny from linkpool have basically stopped asking questions and chatting in the public channels. Presumably they're still talking, but there's no evidence of it publicly.
