Is it even possible to succeed in the workforce if you suffer from social awkwardness?

Get good at a trade. Nobody cares then, in fact, they kind of expect it.

No.

You might be able to survive with some sort of crappy nightshift job though.

I can tell you as someone who has hired many people before, if i have read your resume and have brought you in for an interview, you are more than likely qualified for the role. the interview process isnt always so much about guaging your capabilities; that comes from training, the interview process lets me get to know you, lets me engage is serious conversation with you, lets me see if i would actually enjoy working with you. So if youre socially awkward and cant have a laugh with a random person, i dont want your autistic ass representing my company. though to be fair, i have mainy worked in retail/office management so obviously if youre a hard science major working in some niche job you can be as weird as you want. the IT guys are always fucking weirdos

>>903622

Yes, but you won't be getting promoted since promotions are mostly social manipulation and politics.

>> No.904583

>>903622

yes, but whenever anyone sees your awkwardness they will prey on you cruelly and bully you. May not be anything serious but everyone will ridicule you in some way. Everyone is a bully and everyone is looking for a chance to feel superior and be smug and condescending to others, at least thats how it seems. Social awkwardness will be over come though but you'll be bullied first

Top tier trades are: Electrician, Welder, Plumber, HVAC

Electrican has the least manual labor, but is the hardest to learn and get into.
Welder has the best opportunity for creative types (you play with fire and lighting all day long), but you will get burns.
Plumbers will never, ever, ever be out of work. Ever. Ever ever. But you get to work with shit (yes, actual shit) all day long.
HVAC is technical like electrician and practical like plumbing. You don't have to handle shit, but it's harder to get into since demand is lower.

Pick one.

If you work at a place where having "personality" to your clients is emphasized by your employer, it will be bad. But those places are generally the lower-paying ones as mostly people just want you to do the work.

I work in tech support and have gotten better at it over the years. But I don't socialize with clients. I just explain things patiently in a calm, clear manner and help guide them through whatever problem we're working on. They seem to appreciate it overall and understand that I'm only interested in solving the problem, which is something I don't have to pretend about since I do find it interesting.

Some IT people don't get good at this, and the worst tendency is those who act like the customer is stupid and are rude. But it's also bad when overly social people make jokes and tell long-winded stories or bullshit to cover up when they don't know what's going on. It causes many more problems to the client and the company.

Former 0302 here -- get out bro, it's a stifling world that you're in. You're dealing with scrubs. No potential for growth, and it stunts you. Churchill had a speech impediment, Theodore Roosevelt had epilepsy and an asthma that almost killed him every day. Demosthenes was straight incompetent and became the best orator ever outside of Cato. Have fun holding yourself back, bro

>be weird
>get professional help
>have good job
>make ~90K/yr
>keep being weird (I get told)
>not management material
>employee reviews are excelling
>smartest in group (I get told)
>join Toastmasters, now I am confident and weird
>still not management material

Don't know how to shake this. Today I told a guy to stop being a hater because he didn't know what a civilian data scientist would do with raw NASA data

This is not a thing.

Social interaction is akward for everyone, always. You decided to put a label on it and use it as an excuse.
