Torrents on the blockchain? Can someone explain wat is this?

Abuse of the bch's blockchain. It's going to happen, but given how small the fees are it's not going to increase the price.

It's 5D chess. They create ground for a very effective FUD. RIAA will lobby to delegalize cryptocurrencies, arguing they are used for copyright infringement where sharing party earns monetary rewards for the stolen content. Screencap this.

there is no abuse possible of the chain. That's the whole point.

What happens if people en masse get sick of netflix and region locking shit from the major studios, and decide that a joystream backed rebellion is the appropriate response, and they spend about as much on netflix subscriptions as they do on joystream torrents?

It's going to suck if every node has to store 10TB of random shit.

hahahaha... those motherfuckers can't even stop old school traditional copyright infringement, and you think they're going to be able to compel the state to act more swiftly against a threat that already threatens its existence? Fuck me, this fuckin place.
Crypto works *because* the state can't do a damned thing about it, and because of that, it can and will kill them, when they classed it as a munition decades ago they already understood that, cryptocurrencies simply took Pandora's little box and turned it into the most epic roastbeef sandwich in all of history since the introduction of retard friendly firearms and conscript armies and their effect on feudalism.

It's a good idea actually
Nice to see a system where you get coin for seeding

That's for the node operators to decide. And if you're running a node "because greg maxwell said I should" then you should probably re-evaluate the worth of doing so.
The actual node operators who run them as a cost of their mining businesses don't give a semi-fuck about 10TB blockchains, even assuming it did get that much traction, which would be absolutely stratospheric for the BCH price as only the magnet links are actually embedded in transactions, so that would imply a lot of them.

>which would be absolutely stratospheric for the BCH price as only the magnet links are actually embedded in transactions, so that would imply a lot of them.
In absence of centralized mining and empty blocks any transaction with a non-zero fee is going to be included.
Imagine a fee of $10 per MB. Not much impact on the price.

You're not following. It's not the fees that would influence the price of BCH to go up if that scenario actually happened, it is the buying of BCH in order to spend on joystream content that would cause the price to go up.

>> No.9022949

The tweet is about storing magnet links on the blockchain. There's no payment involved during downloading.

Yes there is.
https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/joystream/
"JoyStream is a BitTorrent protocol that offers faster speeds, torrent streaming, and paid streaming. The main innovation with JoyStream is that you can earn money in exchange for seeding torrents. Meanwhile, users can pay to stream specific parts of the torrent."

>> No.9023119

>>9022949
Dude, to store magnet info in the chain you have to buy BCH and make a transaction.

>> No.9023196

>>9023119
To be fair though that isn't going to matter to the trade volume at all, you can get BCH transactions into the chain for a penny, and it is a property of the system that they intend to make the necessary changes to preserve, unlike the sabotaged BTC system.
129 million subscribers in netflix @ 10 USD a pop though is already 1.29 billion in potential trade volume if similar levels of adoption are reached. That's of course very speculative, but it's not insane that Joystream could do to Netflix what Netflix did to Blockbuster.
