Are there any farmers on /biz/, cattle or otherwise that can comment on the global farming situation. I know Africa has lots of arable land, but I want to ask about Northern farming, I live in BC and we have a few farms nearby. Is it profitable without subsidies, is there lots of unclaimed land still around, is global warming destroying/making farming things easier or harder? Google only shows me things about Africa/India and some arbitrary numbers and most farmer websites haven't been touched since 1996

If you don't already own 100s of acres of land free and clear, forget it.

So it's still a money pit with the rising costs of food and meat?

Fraser valley resident masterace reporting in! There are plenty of profitable blue berry farms around Langley , Delta , Cloverdale area , also if you are interested in farming something that it's year round and don't require you to hire truck loads of exchange workers from some third world toilet , you can look into hydroponic technology and grow medical marihuana . But yes generally speaking farming is still profitable in bc , just to be competitive you will have to do as the East Indians do and hire foregin workers

As with all commodities, corn, milk and beef is down

Now might be a good time to invest.

If you do milk, then forego milk robots, they are more expensive than worth

You can try and marry in or just happen to have several million laying around.
