Is the middle class dead?

>> No.891727

Yes. The wage gap is increasing quickly as the rich find better and better ways to keep their money. There are less new business starting up than ever and most major "startups" are started by the wealthy already.

Americans are working longer hours and more years than ever for the same paychecks as before and everyone is afraid to take loans/risk to make more money.

If everyone is working for a few companies, then c-suite execs at the top see all the money. We're going in a bad direction because everyone is afraid of taking on risk and just wants a "stable job".

No, the middle class isn't dead, people are simply too stupid to actually plan ahead. If you choose to go to college, just make sure you major in something that isn't shit and network a lot (yes you basement dwellers, that means you can't sit in your mancave forever) and you should be able to find a job that pays decently well. Also, don't be an idiot and go on shopping sprees and take on debt that you can't pay back. Live frugally and throw your savings in a mix of us stock and bond etfs. If you manage to do all of this, you will easily be middle class. All this bullshit talk about "middle class is dead", "student loans are insane", etc... are just entitled idiots that think that just because they have a degree (even if it is in women's studies from tumblr university), they should get a high paying job. No-one is entitled to anything, you better prove your worth if you want the dosh to roll in.

That's around the time the boomers took over the US for seats in power.

As for any wage gap, people need to do the following more often:

1) Negotiate salaries
2) Jump to different jobs if you feel you are stagnating at your current one

Switching jobs every few years or so tends to give much nicer returns than just staying in one job for many years. The days where an employeer - employee relationship depends on the loyalty to the company are dead, know it and exploit it

Hey guys I found the college student who took econ 101. Inb4 he says he's making 150k as an engineer or accountant.
Listen up, noob. Your major doesn't mean shit these days. Networking works if you're from the right background,

1982 is when computerization started in earnest. All the wealth from this went to capital not labor.

lol do people seriously think this is required to have a good job

I make six figures and outside of a professional context, 8-5 M-F, I speak with absolutely no one

This. Networking and relative experience trumps any college education, for 90% of fields out there. I majored in Anthropology but got a job in Finance after 2 internships. My GPA wasn't but 3.4. I just knew how to turn my autism off for interviews. Think you're on the road to success because you got a Comp Sci degree with a 4.0 GPA? Yeah well millions of others think the same thing too. What makes you think somebody will hire you when your classmate has 2 apps on the market with over 1 million downloads, and the CEO of a multi billion dollar tech company follows him on Twitter and retweeted his apps and what the University is working on in the tech world. Not to mention all of the recruiters coming to find people like him, not somebody like you. What have you done? Made a compound interest calc for class? A command prompt game? Top kek. (these are actually true stories from people I went to Uni with, my friend being the loser). You'd rather come on /biz/ than join organizations and contribute to some big project your University has? Top kek.

what the fuck is 'the middle class' even?

I fucking hate it when people throw that term around without telling us what they actually mean.

Basically between poor and rich
Typically own a house outright or at least >50%, could handle any debt and living expenses of your family on your income alone should your wife have to stop working.

Yes, middle class is dead. This is more accurate (pic related).
