I have a question.

I bought BTC in Decembre and traded these BTCs for alts on the same day.

I have to show the value that these alts have on the 1.1.2018, right?

And I also bought BTC and traded them for alts in February and March of this year.

Now, I again have to show the government the value that these coins have on the 1.1.2019 and depending on how much profit was made, the taxes will be decided. (The initial investment is obviously not taxes, just the profit).

Did I get this right? Because I never had to pay taxes before on crypto so I wanna do it as good as possible.

Also, doesn't this system mean that it is best to buy in Decembre?

Because:

>buy 10 BTC on 25.12.
>price increases minimally until 1.1.
>thus I have to pay way less taxes

Is this true

Maybe they shouldn't have made crypto taxes so fucking abysmal. Maybe then I would've given them some crumbs of my traceable crypto balances.

Probably not, but imagine that you skip paying taxes on $2000 in cap gains in 2017. Crypto moons by 2020 and you're happy, but you can't use any of that money because you didn't declare any of it. And you'll have so much interest that it'll be much less painful to just pay it now.

Best case scenario tax dodger fags can hope for is that Uncle Sam changes the tax code to something a bit more sane and that make paying taxes in crypto allowable, making all of these changes retroactive. There's no guarantee this will happen at least in the near term, however.

I do think if there's enough people who refuse to pay taxes, the cost will be so exorbitant to the IRS that they will be forced to look at it and make some changes. This is not a guarantee.

Their automated systems will cross-reference the income you've claimed on your taxes and now you're under investigation. They WILL fuck you over, this is quite literally their "job" i.e. how they get their money. Through tax revenue. If you don't pay them they WILL find you, idiot

Yes, the USA taxes it's citizens on all income, no matter where it was earned. However if you are out of the country for an extended period of time you may be able to claim a Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.

Will you stop with the tired ass Al Capone meme. This isn't about tax evasion its about the IRS needing to update or its going to get slammed hard than Capone did.

Also the government should make TurboTax and companies like this obsolete. They have hoards of tax experts, they should create ONE piece of software that is by itself THE definition of the tax code

Why the fuck is the tax code written on paper when instead it could be ACTUAL CODE? You just give all the info and it calculates your taxes, it's all well known and open source. THIS is how the government should be run but they're living in the dark ages

It's not a question of caring. Most returns are processed by computer now, it's not clerks in a cubicles reading your return and going "aha! Caught them!" If you declare income, you have to prove where it came from. If you move enough money through a bank account in certain values or patterns, they'll report you to the IRS. There's probably even more shit in place tracking money because of the Patriot act. Thinking the IRS "doesn't care" is idiotic, and usually what everyone says, before they're caught - and they have 7 years to catch you.

Doesn't work that way. And, if you get caught with 9k in cash at the airport, they'll confiscate it and make you prove where you got it, and you'll now be on the watched list by Homeland Security, and get anal probed every time you cross the border.

Do you really think you're smarter than the government? They hire PhDs to figure this shit out, and you're gonna outsmart the smartest people at the table? Get the fuck outta here, dummy.

Oh, and the only way to have dual citizenship is to have grandparents or parents born there. Otherwise, you have to live there for 5 years, to register for citizenship, and you can't leave the country for more than 14 days a year in those 5 years, and you have to give up your US citizenship. Which means you pay the Exit Tax, which is 50% of ALL your assets, they take everything you own, even clothes, and take half as if you'd sold it. And then, Belize banks are signatories of FATCA, so any cash that suddenly appears in their banks from you, with no proof of income, is reported to the US government.

Again - stop thinking you've come up with things the government hasn't thought of. FATCA changed the entire world, in terms of hiding money.

Fuck the IRS and their mafia ways.

All these fucking " pay your taxes or else " threads are made by the IRS shills, because they know very well that they have no fucking way of actually tracking any trades, mined coins or transfers of said coins. Maybe they will in 20 years.
For now they count on idiots reporting all of this so they can estimate how much they are " missing"
