dude there's nothing wrong with public transit. I didn't own a car for 2 years. I just like the flexibility it provides. I drive a beater Saab that I paid cash for, my only real expenses are insurance and gas. Public transit is cheap as dirt, is wonderful for catching up on podcasts too.

They're not that hard. $5-7000 gets you a decent LS1 car (280-300whp) and $3-5000 gets you a decent LT1 car (230-250whp, can have optispark issues).

Towards the upper end of that range if you want a 6 speed or lower mileage car. I mean they made 300,000+ of them and a decent chunk were second cars or sold down south (no rust). Rust on the floors and strut towers are what can kill them.

Mine is a 2001 6spd Hardtop 1SC Model (no options, crank windows/manual locks/manual mirrors) w/71k miles that was owned by a autistic middle aged HS teacher who mostly babied it. These cars can take a beating and parts are cheap (stock and aftermarket, only thing that's $$$ = engine and transmissions cause of LS1 swap meme, but its to the point people buy $4000 and under ones just to part out).

Just be patient and let the deal come to you. Everyone wants LS1 cars so consider a LT1 if its cheap enough or has the work you already want to do (built transmission, Moser/Ford rear, high-end suspension/brakes, heads/cam, etc) already done. I've heard of people not being able to even give away LT1 cars because everyone wants the LS1, but throw a decent set of ported heads + cam or even just a cam on the LT1 and most of those LS1s will be seeing your tail lights.

Truth is these cars are getting old. $10-16k gets you a C5 Corvette or a 11-14 5.0 Mustang that's way better in every way. No reason to pay more than $8000 even unless you're a collector and want a super mint WS6 or 35th AE SS.
