Welder/mechanical assembler here. I had not realized how in demand I was until my boss pissed me off and I started looking for a new job. Was making 24 an hour and found a new comfy union job making 30 an hour within 2 weeks. A lot of people simply lack the dexterity.
Good example is Boeing in Auburn WA.
They interviewed over 300 TIG welders and only 12 we're able to pass the necessary Certs.
Was a 0.020in wall 1in 6al 4v titanium tube to a 0.033 plate fillet.
No suck back allowed
No colors besides silver and straw.
No burn through, even H.A.S. marks.on the inside.

So I'm technically an assembler. So my pay is only $19hr. (I have a $24 job lined up) They refuse to let people change job titles so.
It's funny because I have more certs than another other welder in my building.
But the welders can easily get $27 with their level 2 promotion..
But this is all clean aerospace welding. The stick guys at local ship yards are getting around $30+ or so
