Thousands of morons bought into the bucketshop trading crap (Bitmex), and the market makers are snap-liquidating high leverage traders. I can't believe how people around here don't see what's happening.

>> No.8785513

>>8785496
why are they doing that? what is the benefit?

>> No.8785601

>>8785513
>Be broker with $100 million dollars
>Lay a contract (long) that someone buys, thinking price goes up (Moron A)
>Moron A does 50x leverage
>Drop the price 1.5%
>Lay a new contract (short) that someone buys, thinking price goes down (Moron B)
>Moron B does high leverage (50x)
>Sell BTC to quickly drop the price 0.5% to liquidate Moron A, taking all of their money. Since they are forced to buy, price rises swiftly
>Buy BTC to rise the price the remaining 0.5% not risen by Moron A's liquidation, liquidating moron B
>Repeat

This is happening so damn much that it's funny. This is done at all scales. If you are not a market maker (10's - 100's of millions) and you trade with leverage, you will lose.

In case it's not obvious from what I wrote, this is exactly what the Bart pattern "is". It's watching people gambling (leverage) and losing in real time.

liquidation would benefit the lender to morons A and B, not the broker, am i wrong?

>> No.8785798

>>8785780
I used broker incorrectly. You're right. This is a profit situation for the lender on both edges. Only market makers are winning right now.

still having a hard time understanding. so lets say i pony up to bitmex for a BTC loan to short. are you saying bitmex, knowing i have a leveraged position, then manipulates the market to liquidate me?

aren't there some kind of legal barriers for exchanges to liquidate people they lend to?

this still isnt adding up for me on a few levels. one, bitfinex would have wallets that can be monitored, so there would be evidence of this activity. is there any actual proof this is going on or are people just assuming?

second, long and short positions, and exchanges arent unique to crypto. does lender liquidation occur in the stock market as well?

third, how often does this actually benefit the exchange to liquidate? to liquidate a short, the exchange would have to buy many times the amount of collateral moron B put up to borrow his BTC. if the price dips after it artificially brought the price up by ordering deep into the book, the exchange would end up just holding bags. conversely, to liquidate moron B for his collateral, it would have to sell way under the current market price a great volume of BTC. moron A's collateral would be just a fraction of the value the exchange moved to push the price to liquidate one trader.

>>8785932
spoofing is about putting up false orders, the movements we are talking about are large actual sales that happen within minutes. a poster earlier mentioned stop loss, which seems more plausible, especially because it happens around even price points, like 6600

It's a scam that's being going on as long as (at least) stocks have traded. It's the reason why the USA banned bucket shops, ultimately. The exchange makes money when anything is traded. They don't care how much money people make. The exchange doesn't care at all about liquidation.
