Had a phone interview with a nuclear power plant company. One of the largest in the US.

During the interview there was pretty standard STAR questions which I had looked up good formatting for responses to them.

The HR didn't understand everything I was saying when I talked about one of my condensed matter physics projects, but that is to be expected.

Overall I felt it went really well, but there was one question that I always find hard.

"What is your biggest flaw, not one others would say is your biggest flaw, but your own opinion of your biggest flaw."

I said something along the lines of "Hmm, tough question! I never know whether you are suppose to be honest, but I guess I will be. My biggest flaw is sometimes I get a little frustrated when a project doesn't go as planned. For instance the problem I told you that I solved before, at the time I was frustrated with having to do a lot of work over again, but sometimes you just have to work through that initial frustration. So that is what I think is my biggest flaw."

Is that a good answer or did I fuck myself somehow? What is the best way to answer that?

Its an alright answer. Relax.

>I work too hard
>I care too much

Personally I go with "I tend to favour the quality of my work over the speed at which it is accomplished" or something along those lines as it is both true and could be perceived as a flaw while also having an upside

That being said it's a bullshit question to begin with

You're probably fine

STAR is a style of interview. It focuses more on behavior type. It is pretty common in general industry, and used HEAVILY in jobs where safety is a concern like nuclear. It basically judges if you are a whackjob idiot who would be a dumbass and not follow protocol.

Here is a great resource, read it, it is short and has helped me a ton.
