daily reminder the wheels are in motion to develop a government administered blacklist to overlay onto cryptocurrencies and they plan on making a blacklist of monero addresses. think about that one for a second and tell me why monero is not a good buy relative to other coins

That's silly.

You can very easily move an unknown account from one Monero address to another without anyone knowing. BTC has a public ledger that you can follow and ban coins. Monero you can't. It's the whole point.

Monero spends work like a mixer. You spend from your own address and four others.
The problem is that if someone knows that four other inputs are already spent (eg. they were generated by an exchange that sends logs to the state) they know what your real input is.
Then there's a separate problem - timing. If you spend your output fast after that it's virtually certain it's a real spend, so you gain zero anonymity.

In truth, it's not very anonymous. You have to churn one input for days (meaning you make one transaction each day) to get any realistic anonymity. Amounts are private which is nice.

Shitcoin that is being banned already on exchanges, like in Japan.

stop with the FUD. this morning's monero bounce on the india crypto ban news is proof that regulation only makes monero stronger.

I think you need to brush up on Ring Signatures.

Raising the ringsize is the worst thing you can do, because it makes you stand out.

Monero uses ring signatures to implement a mixer. It's not a magic box that makes payments anonymous.

have a look on the monero stack exchange:

he is correct, ring signatures are proof one of N inputs signed the tx, but if you own 3/4 priv keys that are used to mix those txs you basically know which input is the real signer, however that doesnt reveal much info about him

I explicitly wrote that private amounts are nice in the first post. This has nothing to do with how effective mixing is.

>> No.8767947

>>8767787
also with bulletproofs which are log N in scaling we could embed 1000 outputs for the same tx fee as we have now ^_^

>> No.8768074

>>8767787
You don't need to own privkeys, you only have to know that they are spent.
>>8767947
Forward privacy (you have a hot input and want to anonymize it) requires others to include your input. If all you do is send it to an exchange in one transaction it's pretty much useless.
Main problem of monero is that excluding shapeshift and exchange transactions there are at most few hundred unknown (to LE) inputs daily. If an unknown person chooses known mixins his input also becomes known.
