Also, this is the reason why I always write link can be as equally important as blockchain itself.

https://b3i.tech/home.html

this is a project backed by several companies. which he mentioned yesterday. they want to take use of distributed ledger technologies. what they will do is create systems of their own which they can share. where does link enters? well, its the connection of the outside to this dlt's. there's zero need for eth being majorly adopted or backed up, or any other bchain system. they can make private ones, backed by their companies and then use whatever link offers.

off course you can say, why don't they create oracles of their own. well, that juicy reputation of the nodes will be worth a lot. if chainlink works, they will know the data they are fetching is both secure and trustworthy, hence no reason whatsoever to risk over their own backed up systems.

>B3i also works together with IBM to implement a smart contract management system

Now let's look at B3i:
>B3i has members from several major firms
>Ken Marke is marketing and communications lead at B3i, also Head of Strategic Futures at Ageas
>Fei Zhang is Chief Operating Officer at B3i, also Head of Blockchain at Allianz Group

>In a Q&A style dialogue, Rometty and White revealed new information about the venture, which is focusing initially on documentation and visibility and was originally announced in January. That included the number of partners it has signed up and has in the queue (“25 companies onboarding, another 30 in the queue, and another 40 after that,” White said); and included possibly inviting in additional ownership into the venture, and how it is transitioning from the proof of concept stage to actual product. Finally, they revealed the possibility that the venture could expand beyond its initial concept on visibility and documentation into areas such as finance and insurance, areas specifically not covered within the initial scope of the venture.

“We’ve been working on this for 18 months. This is not a new concept, this is going into production,” Rometty said.

>OK I cannot say any specific company but if you guys google what companies are looking into this solution you will be able to piece it together...maybe.

An industry that no one talks about but is big on Sergey and Co radar is construction. There are already companies on board with this and I wouldn't doubt this information comes out right around main net. I suspect Chainlink will be at the forefront of construction specifically it will be used by Building Information Modeling or BIM.

If you don't know what BIM is google it even better see if there are any companies using bim that are interested in blockchain. Here is a scenario - a large construction project along with multiple smart contracts are entered into BIM. Based on the progress of the project - companies will be paid, insurance adjusted, notices sent, etc.

Smart Contracts with Chainlink as the backbone will revolutionize construction management. This is going to happen and companies are on board...now do you realize why poor you is not getting updated by Sergey and Co? Your 10k linkies will probably retire you in a few years regardless if bitcoin is $50,000 or $50.

It's not about having a powerful computer or a fast connection. It's about the uptime/stability.
Running a node on your desktop PC is a bad idea unless you really know what you're doing (which I figure you don't if you're asking this question).

The best bet is renting an actual server which you'll also have to pay and upkeep so might as well join the linkpool and pay the fee.

The truth is that even if everything goes perfectly, the ceiling is $100. Every 'major shaker' coin has a ceiling worth about 1/10th what the last major shaker was worth.

BTC = 10k > ETH = 1k > LINK = 100

Salesforce just bought, for $6.5 billion, Mulesoft Inc., a company that's about making APIs externally available:
This is the most expensive acquisition Salesforce has ever made. That's because they know how important APIs will be, and ChainLink is poised to connect this API economy to this emerging Smart Contract economy. Salesforce are connected to ChainLink via the dev Dimitri Roche, and Sergey tweeted the Salesforce CEO.

Yes, the API economy is huge and it's growing. How huge? Well, the research consulting company Ovum says that the size of the API economy is going to be 2.2 trillion dollars during 2018. There were ~15,000 public APIs available in 2016, growing by 40 new ones per day during 2015. In 2016, Netflix alone received 5 BILLION API requests PER DAY.
>An API request is equivalent to a "job" that an oracle would do.
>For comparison, Oraclize claims to do "thousands" of jobs per day. That shows just how much room for growth this API/Smart Contract economy has.

If ChainLink can capture just 3% of the $2.2 TRILLION global API economy, that gives it a market cap of $66,000,000,000 - 66 BILLION. Consider that Sergey said there are 19,000 people interested in running a node: that's over 100% of the available public APIs in 2016, so 3% of the market is very conservative. Consider that Starbucks holds 40% of the market share of US coffee shops. We’re not even considering what % of the smart contract economy ChainLink can capture, for which I can't find much on predictions for its value or its current value.

Price per coin multiplied by number of coins determines market cap, so marketcap divided by number of coins gives us coin price. So if LINK captures 3% of the API economy, that gives us a price of $188.
