How much money should I make to support the lifestyle I want?

Ideal lifestyle:

>$6,000,000 - $9,000,000 home in Los Angeles
>Nissan GTR, Lamborghini Aventador, Mercedes Maybach S600, Range Rover Autobiography, Cadillac Escalade, and an Audi R8.
>3-4 kids, all boys, private schools, then Ivy
>Hot wife, preferably fashion designer, blonde/brunette, white
>2 months of vacation per year, (5-6 trips, 1-2 weeks each) with the family
>All my clothes will be Bespoke ($5,000 each or so)
>Watch collection, mostly Rolexes, totaling around 10 watches
>Eat out 3-4 times a week at expensive restaurants in LA
>Hang out with celebrities (I'm 19)

So, how much money would I need to make to support this lifestyle?

I'm in university for Finance, and I'm aiming for Investment Banking, then after that, who knows, CFO or CEO of a large company.

I'm also planning on starting a business in university, something along the lines of a rideshare for my small ish town (but it's not shit tier university, lots of US recruiters recruit from where I go)

So, how much should I take in every year, to afford my goals?

I'd like to have kids by the time I'm 30, with a 25 y/o wife, so I'd need to make $12.5M by then, and have boughten most of these things, except education (kids won't be done school)

So, I guess I'd need around $9,000,000 to comfortably afford all the things I listed, by the time I turn 30 years old.

Then each year after that, it would cost around $1,000,000 per year to support my family, (this is an exaggeration, it should only be around $750,000, but $250,000 added for incidentals)

I think Equity Research could get you to a PM position just as fast as IB (around 3-4 years working + Ivy grad school). Also, if you can major in Maths/stats/engineering. If you have a quantitative degree plus knowledge of finance and the markets you'll look better than the run of the mill business major.

Well, it's the best spot at the top in my opinion, it's the most publicized banking job I guess, and everyone knows you're successful when you say you're an I Banker. (I like it when people see I'm doing well).

It's also the best of both worlds, I learn about finance while learning about investing because eventually I want to own a large business, something similar to Trump or Gates, something I can leave after I die and the world remembers me.

I have a lot of interests and I Banking seems to be the one that can provide me with the resources to fulfill those interests in the shortest time span, I'll graduate with 1.5 - 2 years of work experience, and I'll graduate at 21.5 - 22 years old (0.5 years early) because I'm in the head start program. Then I play to work for another 2 years, so I have 4 years of experience, then go and get an MBA or a Masters or do my PhD, thinking about Stanford or Wharton for that.

My parents are pretty well off, so I have no worries about paying for my education, or supporting myself during my education, so that's a huge burden gone for me, which is why I feel like I have to do better.

Also, my dad told me one time, he makes 30 x how much his Dad used to make, and it's up to me to continue that tradition and make 30 x what he makes. He makes $90,000 a year, so it's up to me to make $2,700,000 per year, by the time I turn 40 ish.

I'm basically not really "crazy" about I Banking, I just see it as the quickest route to get where I want to be in life, and enjoy myself doing it, while learning things that will be useful for me in the future when I start my own business(s) and need to navigate the business world.

So judging from this I'd say you probably haven't "learned a lot about it"

I-Banking has little to do with investing, its a glorified sales career - buy-side is where the money / lifestyle / work etc. are better

PhDs are absolutely useless, nobody in industry has them, and the shift now is even moving away from MBAs to just promoting from within, all you really need is a solid undergrad and to be good at the job

"enjoy myself while doing it" - you realize the workweeks are ~100 hours, there is little time to enjoy yourself in I-Banking, especially at the junior level unless you really like what you're doing

Money-wise its actually one of the best careers, so you got that right at least. Starting pay is ~120k - 150k/year, and thats right out of undergrad. I'm making ~400k - 500k right now as an associate (25 y/o)

>> No.873243

GS had 15,000 applications for just a few positions once. You honestly think they'll hire someone who isn't overly interested in the business?

Get out of dream world and do something you enjoy, the money will follow. Stop being so materialistic. How sad will your life be if you have to have numerous holidays, all the nice cars and houses you're hardly just to feel fulfilled?

The way you're talking, if you even had a glimmer of a chance of IB, you'd get burned out within a few years and become a desk jockey working 9-5 because you'll realise you're happier spending evenings and weekends with your family and friends rather than working 80 hour weeks chasing fiat money and living a life of regret.

I'm in Canada by the way... So I Banking salaries here are nothing close to that $120k - $150k.

The reason I said MBA or PhD was so I could apply to one of the good US firms, and show that even though I'm from Canada, I do have the MBA/PhD and I took it just to work in the US

I'm at University of Windsor right now, but I'm planning to switch to University of Western or University of Toronto in my 3rd year (next year).

I chose Windsor this year because it was really cheap (good grades = basically free tuition) and I could afford a car + rent here, instead of having to take a loan to live in London or Toronto.

So far my grades are pretty good, all A's, and 2 B's, but the B's are in electives.

My major is Mathematics and Statistics, with a minor in Computer Science. Next year for Western I'm applying for Ivey, and Statistics, and at Toronto I'm applying for just Mathematics. I might apply to Waterloo too, but they don't like transfers much, so that might be tricky.

So, do you think it's possible to get a US banking job, in todays job market from a Canadian undergrad?

I mean, I know I should have gone to Queens but Queens wasn't even on my radar back in high school, I thought it was some country university that didn't have anything for me, but this year I realized it's one of the best business schools in Canada, and I totally fucked up by not going there lol

>> No.873260

>>873253
Alright so I went to Ivey, and hands down that should be your goal, apply for HBA1 there. Queens has mediocre US recruiting, Ivey had recruiting (this past year) from all the major US banks and most elite boutiques on both the west and east coast. Basically if you want US banking go to Ivey, Queens is second, but its not really comparable. Ivey has a monopoly on the US spots basically. Anything else is relatively worthless for US banking.

But it also says that, I need to be in a commerce program to apply to Ivey HBA1?

So will my current major (Mathematics/Statistics) not work for Ivey HBA1???

I have taken some business electives at Windsor, and I plan on taking some more this year, so I'm pretty sure I have the equivalent for Business 2257.

That tid bit about commerce worries me though, I thought you could technically take any other program to go to Ivey as long as you took the pre requisites?

Saving $23,000 a year going to Windsor for 2 years, ($46,000 total) than if I were to go to UofT.

My parents make too much money to be considered for OSAP, but they literally don't because after taxes it gets wiped out.

My high school graduating average was 91%, and I wanted to enjoy myself in university, not go to UofT or Waterloo and come out gay.

Also, Windsor has many partnerships with US firms that come to Windsor to hire, and I've met with a tonne of them that only go to Windsor for recruiting since it's right across from Detroit.

Also, the admission requirement for Windsor was 84%, the same requirement was required for UofT. So suck my dick if you think that because you went to UofT for fucking Commerce, that you're better than me, because guaranteed, I got more money in the bank right now than you'll see your entire career at UofT.

Take it from someone who worked 12 jobs already, and got a $6,800 paycheck over 2 weeks during the Christmas break in 2013, when I worked at Future Shop. I was the top seller, and I earned the top commission in my entire stores district.

At University of Windsor 2 of my friends are opening up a club right now, (Club Alure) and they're only a year older than me.

Starting a business is much cheaper in Windsor, another reason I chose it, because costs are low, and people have a lot of disposable income because of it.

Also, it's very close to the US, so I could theoretically work a Co op job in the US, and then come back to Canada and keep both my health care benefits, and the better US earnings.

I didn't just choose Windsor for no damn reason, it made the most economical sense to me in 2014 and that's why I chose it.

I love that type of lifestyle though, I currently work 40 hours a week and balance university in with that (only 4 class days, 5th class is online learning)

I'm netting around $2k a month right now, while getting good grades and maintaining a decent social life.

I'm very good with time management, I just do things the day I get them, and be done with them lol, I don't use a calendar or anything, I find that is too time consuming.

But yeah, I can see how 100+ hours a week might look depressing, but I love that lifestyle of staying at the office late, going home late, and then working in my office at home, with a coffee or a beer, it's my idea of a fun career I guess.

I've always lived a very structured life, so I'm used to it.

In my last year of grade 12 I finished 2 courses in independent study (so I could graduate a semester early) within 6 days, and then took another 2 days to do the exam.

I'm highly motivated, and it's mostly because of how much money I've managed to make so far and how hard I've worked to get it until now.

Yeah, I used to be 19 at one point as well. I remember going to school, going to a job, and then going home and building on an investment property. 75 hours in a week was nothing. By the time you reach 35 you just don't have it in you ... at least I don't anymore. I'm in shape, but 55 hours in the office and I'm ready for the weekend.

You kind of sound like me when I was 19, I thought I'd be fucking multimillionaire by 30 ... it all looks good on paper. I'm 35 now and make a bunch of money owning my own contracting firm, but I like seeing it sit in an account growing so I can retire very comfortably at an early age.

I think you'll feel different spending your money on those things when you see how hard you have to work for it. Plus, your wife and kids are what is going to make you happy ... make sure you don't marry some soul-sucking whore.

Oh you'll be saving a lot more than money by going to Windsor. For example you'll be saving on networks and university prestige too. :^)

>My high school graduating average was 91%, and I wanted to enjoy myself in university, not go to UofT or Waterloo and come out gay.
LOL you are actually talking about high school? I could go to a private high school and buy my way into university, does that make me better than someone who didn't? Also UofT has massive weeding procedures so high school cutoffs are the least of your worries.

But hey. You got a 91% in high school lol.

>Also, Windsor has many partnerships with US firms that come to Windsor to hire, and I've met with a tonne of them that only go to Windsor for recruiting since it's right across from Detroit.
Yea bro, Windsor's international prestige dwarfs anyone else's. And Detroit is known for being the economic and financial powerhouse of the U.S. lmao.

>Also, the admission requirement for Windsor was 84%, the same requirement was required for UofT. So suck my dick if you think that because you went to UofT for fucking Commerce, that you're better than me
Already half answered this one. But AS FAR AS universities go, yes, I'm miles better than you.

>because guaranteed, I got more money in the bank right now than you'll see your entire career at UofT.

Nigger I never said I was going to stay at Windsor forever, I only chose this place because it made the most financial sense at the time, and it offered great perks.

Yeah, 3 of my friends (a year older) are opening up a club, they just finished their second year. They're all well off, around my level and they decided to open a club since Windsor has a really great club scene. Grand opening is soon too. (Check it out on FB)

I never said Windsors prestige dwarfs anyone else, I simply said its not like its the worst place I could have gone.

University of Toronto might be an overall better university, but that doesn't mean that YOU ARE BETTER than me.

My first co op job was working in the Casino, and I earned my salary in CAD, but whenever Americans came into the casino after checking out the Riverfront they always needed cash, so whenever I over heard this I'd give em $100 CAD for $100 USD, and they wouldn't care since it was only a few $ loss. Either way, I made money off of it, more than most people made in co op.

My reason for 91% in high school was that I got accepted to UofT and Western but I chose Windsor because of cost, I did not want to waste another $50,000 over 2 years, and go to a school with a tonne of competition with respect to grades, I did not want or need the added pressure, so I chose an easier university which allows me to get a higher GPA.

Since UPenn doesn't care about which undergrad you're from, and they solely care about GPA, for me that made a lot of sense, why go to a harder university to have a higher chance of failing to meet requirements when I could go to a smaller university, get a higher GPA, start a business, use Windsors entrepreneurial center to my advantage and get into a US grad school with a business already started, which would have been what "differentiated" me from the rest of the cesspool.

So again, you are no better than me.

>> No.873367

>>873340

Yeah, but there are also those that are materialistic (Donald Trump)

I guess you're right though, I shouldn't chase the money as hard as I do, I should chase the means to the money.

The only thing is, right now I'm chasing the money because to do anything in Canada you need a tonne of capital, it's not easy to get funding for a business.

By the end of my second year I hope to have around $80,000 saved up, and over $25,000 in investments.

On top of that in the last semester of my second year I'll earn another $15,000 from co op, which will put me at around $150,000 in total cash on hand

I was planning on buying a rental property near the university ($200,000) and renting it out for around $500 a month to 4 people, so I could net $4k a month from my work and then not work as hard, so I can focus on maintaining my GPA in UofT or UWO, or whichever school I decide to go to after.

My plan was always to have something making me money without me doing anything for it, and that's why I've been working as hard as I did all these years, ever since I read a book called "The Magic of Thinking BIG." It showed me how to "get ahead" of people, by doing the things people don't do.

Since my parents are paying for my university, whatever money I earn, is mine during it, so it's all just capital and assets I'm building, I have no liabilities whatsoever, my car is paid off in cash, my rent is paid by my parents for the entire 8 month term all at once ($4000), and I basically have no other worries. I don't even pay a lot for food since me and my room mates basically share the cost everyday and order the big "family" bundle from a restaurant or w/e

So yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

saving money is more important to me than where I spend the money (for now) because with this saved money, I can do a lot.

Also, I already have a 13k credit access (4 cards)

by next September I plan to have around 18k available, and I still haven't taken any type of loans yet.

I'm debt free!

>OP buys a fitbit but it breaks.
>OP achieves his dream of eating out 3-5 times a week. IN fact he goes on to average more than once a day. Unfortunately fast food and cheap diners account for the vast majority (~95%) of these experiences. The remaining 5% is OP paying a bit too much for a meal at a trendy bar / cute cafe to try and impress girls.

Ultimately I discovered I didn't need nearly as much money as I'd previously thought to become happy. However if you're on a mission to impress people, there's not enough money in the world. It's a fruitless pursuit and, ultimately, a regrettable way of life. If I ever earn more money than I need to be 100% happy I'll start funding scientific research. That would make me happy. This will sound stupid, and I doubt you'll understand.

But the desire to have needlessly expensive materialistic items (all your clothes are bespoke, a Rolex collection, 6 expensive cars, 8 weeks holiday a year) is pointless. I'm not advocating some hippy-dippy nature walks bullshit, but you're so pointlessly materialistic that the instant you had any significant wealth, you'd throw it away on something you don't need, but increases your status.

You're the type of guy that might be earning $250,000 a year at 25, but you're earning less than your buddy on $150,000, because you're renting a condo in the city centre, you're spending $1,000 a week on nice restaurants, bars and clubs whilst he's inviting chicks to his smaller apartment, in a less hip part of town, to cook them dinner.

You're the kind of guy who, as soon as you get your first significant pay check, will buy a new flashy car, even if your old one works fine. You'll pay $2,500 a month, on a payment plan on a nice Audi or Mercedes, when your buddy paid $10k upfront on a 5 year old BMW which works just fine.

That's going to be your downfall. That you have this craven desire to live a lifestyle like this. It's fine to have a lifestyle like that, once you have the money, but to you the lifestyle is primary. No, you need to make the lifestyle secondary. That inability is going to be your downfall.

Some women realise this is stupid, and even though theyd love it, they are realitistic and end up being good wives, while the others see you have the money, see you love to spend it, get in on it too, and as soon as the tap stops flowing, theyre gone.

That being said, Queen's has a few transfer spots available every fall and I know an individual transferring in from WLU in September. I suggest you look into Queen's if you can, might as well give it a shot and have more options.

What is ultimately the most important is GPA and 'experience', at least for recruiters. Wherever you go, if you have a good GPA and good experience (be it from Investment clubs, internships, etc.) recruiters will want you and if you have a shit GPA and no experience they won't. Simple as that.

Let's say you're serious. First things first: don't be a golden child. Don't be virtuous or innovative. Steal like a chink and min max your finances like a jew. Only follow standard ethics so far as making sure you don't get arrested and your accounts frozen.

Find some start up capital. Work an extra job, get a loan, do something. Invest that. Do not operate anything if you don't need to, establish holdings. Own property and businesses, hire managers/use companys to handle these things for you.

Build your empire. Do whatever it takes. You need to suck somebody's dick do it. You need to get somebody out of your hair, do it (but don't get caught if you're going hardcore).

As a guy in my mid-late twenties it's terrible to see young people chart out their life like this. As if they have enough experience to really know what they want. Audis, GT-R, these cars require little skill and have you even driven them, yet you still want them? Where is this desire coming from? It's definitely not a pursuit of driving pleasure, sounds like you're building your values around hubris.

Are you going to even be living on your own prior to age 25? What about travel? Will you even have experience working in your field at this age, or will you still be in school, wearing your rose-colored glasses?

Here's my plan:
finish my apprenticeship(yeah, I took an arts class in my younger years)
start a business, work seasonally
buy a sailboat, live on it half the year, doing odd jobs at marinas(technical repair)

>> No.876455

This entire fucking thread is kektastic. OP is a delusional raging homo who wants status and attention above anything else. He's probably a guy with a lot of selfies of his face. OP you have unrealistic goals. You are attending a university that no one has heard of and your chance to work in finance or banking are slim to none. You're going to be in teh same place as the guy who partied and got shit grades. Only difference he will have jobs due to the partying. By 30, you have a shit tier job that pays 45k and gf/wife who is a beast because your attitude turns off a lot of women. You're an entitled douchelord who thinks he's better than everyone else. You're not smart nor do you have any skills that are useful to employers. Finance is a super saturated field. Just enjoy working in small companies and live within those means. Because trust me, most wealthy folk you see are miserable and contemplate suicide everyday. Their kids hate them, and the wife is probably number 3 or 4. The original wife married a nice decent guy who is middle class and fucks her 3 times a week. The wealthy guy is too business with making money which makes him stressed and cannot get an erection.

Yeah, these are basically your problems. If you were a white guy then you would have learned not to be such a retard by now. What you are writing is perfectly fine for an arrogant 16 year old. Not appropriate for a 19 year old. At the very least your posts should have gotten more intelligent as this thread went on, but they got worse. You do not have the pedigree or intelligence for a banking job, or a lawying job. Just drop out of college and work at McDonalds. You don't have it in you. If by some miracle you actually get into banking, you will underperform and will never get promoted past an associate level (~200k) position. You will rot at that level and explode into a fat angry type-A fuck. You will be so obese and Indian that no woman will want to touch you, not even a gold digger. You will see the fresh young bankers in their first and second year that pull hot pussy. You will see those acne-covered skinny nerds fucking so many cute interns and gold diggers that you will start to despise them. "Why do women love them so much? They make half as much money as me and their clothes don't even fit!" you will ask yourself. Then in a few years you will see their careers surpass yours. Soon they are making ten times as much money as you. After a good deal of thought you will realize that you would have been happier if you had just dropped out of college and worked at McDonalds. Then you will cry. Then you will wither for a while; then you will die before you have any kids, a mediocre fat angry virgin. You will die a virgin. Just drop out of college and work at McDonalds. You don't have it in you.

I wish it weren't true. But that's what I think. You seem like a good kid even though you are overconfident. I hope this post cuts you down to size a bit and gives you the motivation you will need to succeed. I just don't see it though.

Im going to a community college atm, doing general ed and deciding on my major.

After reading this thread I'm assuming my chances of going to a top b-school and investment banking are pretty much gone.

Should I just go into computer science and hope I can make a successful tech company?

I want to be rich btw (like op)

only thing else I'm going to say is that if you have this kind of mentality, there is no way you will ever be able to sustain a lifestyle like this. People with these lifestyles are either born into wealth, are actors or are athletes. Pretty much all other millionaires (such as ones who start successful businesses, get into high ranking positions in high-end firms) are frugal at the core.

If you're serious, become a rapper and sell your soul to the devil, pushing the Illuminati agenda. Worked for Kanye, Tyga, etc.

>> No.884698

shit, you almost sound like me when I was 16, except I was trying to find flaws in the betting systems, casinos etc., went very well for some time then crashed and burned.
Now I'm 19 but reality hit me and I came to my senses, I don't need all the shit I wanted back then, all I need is my own business so I don't have to work on dull 9 to 5 jobs and I'm not looking to instantly become the ceo of some bullshit.
Got a few really promising start ups (by the way if anyone got like a $100 to spare it would really speed up protoype completion) and inventions which bring me profit, and bring the buyer profit almost immediately.
All I need is some cash from that to start my own shop which will hopefully make me financially safe and stable for the rest of my life which I will live comfortably.

tl;dr reality gunna kick this guy in the balls real hard real soon when he sees the world doesn't work the way he thinks it does

I'm writing online erotica for amazon and working on my art to make online comics that hopefully tap into that sweet patreon money.
That's the dream, but mainly I'm doing these things for my own satisfaction. Writing erotica is good practice and I enjoy making art. I'm happy to be a bartender for now.

No, that was my dream setup.
Out of all of those I'm a bartender working fulltime, making comics and writing erotica... neither of those have had any real time to get off the ground.
This year I moved to England to travel [from australia] so no car or property. I'm just doing this in my spare time and focusing on makind media I enjoy before attempting to distribute it.
