ADA is a long-term hold. This "rivalry" between the two communities is stupid imo. Both have active development, and they are not targeting the same market segments.
EOS will launch fast and target independent DApps developers. I see something like decentralized Facebook or decentralized Twitter being launched on EOS before the end of this year.
ADA will get here in 2019 and target enterprise: permissioned blockchain, runtime verification, sidechains, etc.
