So for real, does anybody work at home and make money? i know there are jobs you can go to college for, and then they let you work at home, i'm talking like starting FROM my computer
I had a CMS business running for a few years. I love making web pages but I spent a majority of my time chasing business. I hated that part (even though I was good at it). Eventually sold my accounts to my cousin and went back to a 9-5.The business model is solid though, once you peek out the income is passive - just like real estate.
>>826703You mean content management? not familiar with that acronym. I'm curious now though

>>826777>http://pastebin.com/4YeJAUbTyou're the best. thanks
Not that it is nessesarily in the spirit of your post, but lots of companies and moving towards work from home for an increasing number of roles. The technology is now in place to keep people plugged in to all the company resources from anywhere with broadband internet. My company started moving people to home work stations a few years ago as a stop gap measure to retain trained people who were moving away and would otherwise quit, and quickly found great utility in it and have started exploring a remote work program offered to anyone who wants it. For the right person it's a sweet deal. You get a full work station ( computers, phones, duel monitor set up ect) and get to just chill in your underwear at work all day. The only reason I haven't gone down that road is its kind of a dead end. To move into the higher paying gigs you need to be in the office. Although I have often considered the utility in moving somewhere with no job market and just taking my job with me. Lots or cool places that no one lives because there because no jobs.
>>826869is there any way i could get a piece of that job all the way here from california
>>826869>>827099I'm from Europe. Moved to Czech republic last year for a contract. However the proejct has been finished and I am left with one more month of pay. I really do not want to leave this country, I'm in love and living happily. I'm a mid-level PHP dev and I have just started looking for remote job. You gave me some hopes man.

3-year Copywriter here.I consider myself an intermediate Copywriter, learning fast but still not making any passive income yet, but I do make a full time income online from freelancing, so hopefully this thread will help some people to bail.Yeah it's not big bucks, you can expect maybe 5-6k a month if you do it full time, but for those who don't have six figure online empires yet, it's a very cool stepping stone because it's a relatively easy way to become location independent and travel the world. Voilá - your laptop is now an ATM and spits money at you every week. No matter where you are. Live anywhere you want... anywhere in the world at all. Just sign up to get my free report (JK).
>>828227>Detroit
>>826777This maybe a bit off topic but I have a question about the free course bit. How will that benefit someone beyond learning? Do they give you a certificate for completion? Can you add it to a resume?
>>826686I think most people claiming to do so are lying.except for maybe web devs and web security.
Theres online money to be had but it is slight
>>828585>>829913Just no.
>>828471How did you get started? I consider myself a half decent writer and $4k sounds like a kings ransom to me as I make $2k a month now. I think copywriting sounds cool but I don't really understand how to get paid for it.
>>828471Go on
>>826686Jim works from home on the internet and makes $50b a week. I didn't believe him until he showed me the check! Now about that bridge you like so much. If that's the kind of thing you are talking about come on man.I worked from home for many years but it was in a well established legitimate industry and it happened after many years of making connections and then the worked dried up because companies decided remote work wasn't happening and sent the remote work to companies and called it outsourcing. Things are kind of fluid. You can make a lot of money on Youtube but you need to have lots of subscribers. I did a bit of work for a guy who's making maybe 24k a month doing that but he has rich parents and they bought him all the cameras and managed the business until things got off the ground. One of the guys he worked with told me that the industry is "still pretty shady but getting better."
>>828471I'll do it for $12/hr, just give me an Internet job! How do I start?
>>829941>>831023>>831339I'll lay out the road map I'm following for you... again this is not big cash but it will set you free from the cubicle, from the winter, from the commute, from office politics, from alarm clocks, from schedules, from high prices in the West, and on and on... and it can land you at the beach, or in a Ski resort, or in a café in Paris... all up to you. It's the easiest step toward freedom I know of. My road map is the following five steps, in the following order:1. Free up your time2. Free up your location3. Passivize your income4. Scale up your income5. Invest and retire
>>831363Let me elaborate:1. FREE UP YOUR TIMETo make any amount of money online in any way, shape or form, you will first need some time to create the income stream. That goes for active income aka freelancing online too... so find ways to scale up your hourly rate in your offline life, and scale down your expenses. But how do you scale down your expenses? Anything you can do to cut costs WILL be worth it, I promise - cheaper rent, less going out, less eating out, etc. And how do you scale up your offline income? As soon as you make enough money to live on, you start looking for something that pays more. And you keep swapping jobs / clients / projects until you make enough to live on just a few hours per week. That was my first step - I finally achieved an 8 hour work week (offline) in 2013, following this formula and gradually increasing my hourly income to 6x what I had started with. It was all offline, i.e. not location independent, not scalable, not passive. But it gave me a good foundation to build an online income stream.
>>8313652. FREE UP YOUR LOCATIONOnce you have enough free time to pursue online cash, start signing up for the big 5 freelancing sites (guru, elance, upwork, vworker, freelancer). Build out your profile, pay for membership and start bidding on projects DAILY. I got started with Eben Pagan's "Ignition". His most hated program and yeah I guess it's kinda shitty but there is a section about freelancing in Module 5 that really did get me ignition! Check it out. There are all kinds of skills that are in demand on these boards. I chose Copywriting since I had a knack for writing in general. Even writing pays really well if you're an expert on something or do good research, and if you can deliver good content. I know most of you pay 1-5$ per article... that may be fine for spiders. I charge 120 dollars per article, and the guy I write them for drives millions of readers a year to my posts... there are people who are willing to pay for quality. Find them. It may take a while but don't deal with bottom feeders.
>>831367ADVANCED SHIT3., 4., and 5. - I won't comment too much on these points as I haven't achieved it just yet, and I prefer to only ever speak from experience. But I will still give my two cents on passive income vs. scalable income. I think passive income from a business is nice, but it usually still requires maintenance and it won't last forever... so I am more focused on building something scalable to create a large lump sum of cash to invest... and then the investment will throw off the passive cash flow. Read MJ DeMarco's Millionaire Fast Lane for more on that mindset.I can share some specifics and what-not if you'd like, let me know what you're interested in and I'll share what I can.I'm not a native English speaker BTW so this definitely applies to all you non-natives.
>>831368>>831367>>831365
>>831368What type of articles do you write? Can you please elaborate on exactly what copywriting entails?
>>831532Basically it's salesmanship in print. Copywriting is a piece of text with a purpose to gain Attention, Interest, Desire and Action from the reader. There are numerous ways to achieving it, from sales letters, Video Sales Scripts, landing pages, articles, Email Campaigns and everything in between. It's a creative process, but a structured one in the same time, using known strategies, approaches, etc., to convert readers into customers. Also, I chose to excel in this skill because it's invaluable when creating your own business. Top copywriters charge over 50k for a project, but with their persuasive writing that product/service can amass 10MM.To me that's everything.
I made $3300 on youtube in a month and it took 4 months to build up to that. That was in March. The prices of ads throughout the year keep me on a steady decline until christmas time. still make a nice amount but it feels like shit knowing I used to make $3300 sitting on my computer.
>>831578Why don't you youtube anymore?
>>831566Isn't copywriting subjective? Like can you show me examples of good copy vs bad? I'm pretty sure I'm good at it, but it's fucking hard to know tbh.
>>831902Copy writing isn't subjective because it has specific and measurable goals. A good copywriter puts his copy together through split testing response, not jerking off into paper. This used to be extremely difficult and expensive, but with the internet you can do it easily. If you want to be taken seriously as an independent copywriter, make case studies of you increasing conversions or action taking through testing. Everybody thinks they can write, until they actually have to sell something through it.Also, I did affiliate marketing pushing weight and muscle rebills for years and made plenty of money from home as do thousands of others right now. I have yet to meet somebody successful in affiliate marketing that wasn't scamming people and walking a thin legal line at best, though (rebills are actually some of the less life-destroying offers out there and they are pretty bad). Many of my contemporaries are in prison or had to sign their life away to the FTC (forced to agree to never use the internet again for marketing again).
>>831917Wickedfire bruh?I know the drill though, in affiliate marketing long time myself, familiar with split testing, unbounce, VWO, etc. I guess doing case studies I haven't seen many indie copy writers publish really, so I guess that makes all the difference.
Ask a guy that makes $60k a year buying and selling smartphones over Usell, Ebay, and Amazon anything.
>>831929What kind of phones? What kind of margins?
>>831937>what kind of phonesI tend to stay away from models that are over 2 years old, unless they're a classic that seems to keep on selling (iPhone 4's, Galaxy S3's). Most of what I'm selling these days are Galaxy S4's, S5's, iPhones 5, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, LG G2, G3, etc.>what kind of margins20%-30%. On average I'll make about $50 profit on a device, and I sell about 10 a day.
>>831940What's the best site to source them on and what's the best to sell them on?
>>831943I get most of mine from Usell. It's much quicker than eBay and everything is automated for you.The second best source is locally (craigslist). The good thing about buying locally is that people are stupid and tend to undervalue their device. I bought an S6 locally for $300 and sold it for $600. It can be quick, easy money. One big downside though is that people will be trying to sell you fake phones and phones with a bad ESN (bad ESN phones instantly lose 50% of their value). I would say 80% of my phones are from Usell and 20% are from local customers.>what's the best to sell them on?Broken devices? eBay. Lots of gold scavengers and repair shops use eBay. Fully functional devices? Amazon or Swappa. Swappa is a nice place since the users are really elitist and are usually willing to pay more. I like Amazon because devices sell quickly on there but they only deposit my payments every 2 weeks so it can be pretty disruptive to my cashflow.

Guys I'm in Sweden, just recently hopped on the clickworker train since mTurk denied my registration. Why do I only see Swedish hitapps? At the moment my only mother-tongue in my clickworkers profile is English U.S and A, I have a VPN connected to the U.S. But I'm still not able to change my region/country in UHRS settings. I'm not getting shit from the Swedish hitapps since there's only one with fucked up grammar and writing.>pic relatedIt's my settings menu. When clicking the drop down menus all i get is a white blank. Seriously wat do?
>>834492OC?
>>836660I can't quite help you with your issue. However, I did want to note that I chose to work on CrowdSource rather than Clickworker as Amazon Payments (essentially mTurk) denied my verification. I read that many users have had issues with Clickworker's platform so I decided to try out CrowdSource. It isn't great money but it helps.
>>828535
>>836709Yeah I got onto that too. But I sort of rushed through the end of qualification since I had to leave. Hence getting locked out for like three or two days straight. How's the interface? I don't intend to make big $$$ I already have a job but a few extra bucks a month of extra income wouldn't hurt, I assume that Crowdsource can at least deliver some kind of profits?
>>836718The profits are not great, let me tell you. I've made around $16 in less than a week. I think I spend a majority of my time refreshing the "Find Work" page more than I do actually working. When I do find a task it's very monotonous and tiresome. I'm sure I would make much more money if I had the qualifications to do the actual writing tasks, but the tests are very difficult. I would consider myself capable of writing a 100 word summary over most anything but I'll be damned if I can't even pass the grammar test you have to take beforehand. Other than that, there's a "Senior Quality Assurance Specialist" test with such ambiguous questions it may be harder than the grammar one. Who knows, maybe I'm an idiot. Either way there doesn't seem to be much work available when you first start out.
>>831929What do the cheapest lots go for there?
>>831950I stopped flipping on CL when the new iCloud bs came in. Ruined my entire game.>pic related I could buy broken iPhones for 1/4th the price and fix them up in less than 5 minutes. I even went on to accepting bad ESN phones because I could flip them on eBay. (sellers switch phones for new ones for around $50bucks, crazy huh). Then everyone around me started bringing in iCloud locked phones + wasting my time with noshows/fake money/etc. So when I fixed a broken phone, turned out to be iCloud locked. If it was just password I could have had it removed easily. >Don't mind the black home button, it was 3 in the morning so I didn't notice till after I took the photo.
On top of that, I would look for deals on eBay/other sites where people would sell cheap phones that looked costly. Add some accessories onto it as well to make it look better.>pic related bought 50 of these and sold them for almost close to twice the price on CLprotip: with T-mobile, you can call in as many times as you want to have "your phone" unlocked. I stopped this as well, why? Well I was just lazy and didn't feel like walking down the street to meet people at McDonalds to sell/trade (traded for iPods/etc as well). Mother didn't want anyone coming to the house as well...I'm now selling customs online/things that most people wouldn't feel comfortable selling or don't have a clue how to sell it.
I made $18k in six weeks after launching a relatively popular game in app store. Took me a weekend to think of and another weekend to make. It's not exactly on the level of flappy bird where the guy made $50k *a day*, but I was nonetheless happy with my progress. Prior to that game I hadn't even broken $100 on a single app. As a full time engineering student with not a lot of free time, making apps is definitely favourable to working 20 hours a week in a supermarket I'll tell you that much.
>>837145To be honest that's still excellent, and will look awesome on your CV, congrats.
>>837145>>837145what languages and skills do you use to make apps?how do you get pictures and sound for your games? do you need to know networking, like how to set up a server and have the game interact with your server?

Does anyone know why the UHRS qualifications are closed for UK with Clickworker? Signed up with a VPN connected to the UK, did the first basic test, I passed that. I even managed to add a phone number and confirm it. But I still can't see in my assessments that I can do UHRS qualifications. Decided to do this since there's only one hitapp in sweden. But does anyone know why I'm not getting those assessments? It's not like I've ever connected without my VPN so it's not like they can see anything suspicious.
>>838362Also trying to sign up for fuckbucks but holy shit nothing gets through. Pic related is what error I'm getting. I know that they're only accepting registrations from UK, US and among others. >>843027>So... How do I get a paying job?By doing free shit for a good long while. Exactly like actors/musos do auditions/busk/volunteer gigs.Make sure to apply directly if possible for gigs or oppurtunities. Recently, for example, a local company wanted to make an online ad campaign about a bear and its adventures (like the Paddle-pop movie). It hadn't even been green lit, it was still just an idea but I put my stuff to them anyway. If you're a musician, why are you asking how to do a demo? Display your breadth of skill (voices [make sure they're distinct. Five good characters are worth more than 12 samey characters]), and demonstration what you (believe you) can do better than anyone else (perhaps a particular set of voices, double-speak, mimicking, etc.). You could do an extended skit (demonstarting how you can switch on the fly, make it sound like someones just walking in to the room etc), or you can just have the classic show reel with choice snippets of what you've done (but not the porn).Get social media savy (because it's free real estate). A lot of the time people will (after you've been around for a bit) seek you out but don't get complacent you still gotta drum up business.Start sooner rather than later. The fact is unless you just start doing it you'll get nowhere (duh). Dabble, test, do work for friends/student/family. Just try it out.YOUR KEY SKILL/EDGE might be, if you've got the set up and know how, that you can do editing and add effects FOR the clients. Shit, you can add making, writing and playing music to that (need a background track/character theme, I got dis). I did "screenplay" writing as an "extra" skill so clients could (and often did) just give me an outline and let me fill in the script (and then get rejected, and then rinse repeat until it's agreed on).Hope some of this sorta helps.

>>845313How good are your acting chops? Assessing yourself as objectively as possible. Can you make a brief recording of yourself talking so I can assess your microphone quality, voice, etc? Anything will do. Recite a poem or something. I have a short piece written for a female character that I'm interested in having voiced, but it's not a simple voice over. You'll need to be able to sob, cry, and making retching sounds in addition to the monologue (if you're curious, it's for a piece of short fiction). I would, of course, pay you, and the piece is rather short, so it shouldn't take more than 30-60 minutes of your own time. I can handle the mixing and cleanup. You would also be free to use it as a demo in the future if you wished. Let me know if you're at all interested.
>>844934like i said before, someone with 100.000 views in a video with united states traffic is making a LOT more than someone with 60.000 views of latin american countries and 40.000 from spain, they pay like shit.
>>845643Well that's just the beauty of....
>>845313>is it worth having male and female characters?Yes. As a woman you will often get young boy roles (i.e. Prepubescent). If you can do a convincing male voice, that's awesome. If you can do an all right one it's more a novelty but good to have if you have to play the meta "Female pretending to be a Male but still obviously a Female" gimmick.> i use them then guys keep hitting on me and wont fuck offkek'd>I don't know if i have 5 distinct voices though, i gotta work that out.Start with three. One being your own "normal" (sic. Optimal [breathing, tone, volume, etc.]) voice, then two more separate distinct ones (high and low usually).Start with three, then mix those three, like Primary colour Theory in art.Also. Here's a trick: Try holding cardboard or books in front of your ears when you speak. Ever wonder why you sound different on recordings? Well, that's what other people hear you as. A voice may sound good in your head, but when it gets put through is sounds the same-but-lamer.>If I do a skit, should i write something? or can i just pull a scene from a movie, or get some sides or something? That's up to you. I'd suggest writing something, yet including quotes from film or theatre. For example, my first demo was me trying to record a demo of me reading Shakespeare's (guess who also did Drama) 'Cymbeline' as Leonatus, however I kept on getting interrupted by an assortment of characters.Hell, if you can compose, why not sing as well, or have a song in the background (maybe a cover) by you as you read an audition whilst being interrupted. Narcissistic, but that's the nature of it.The problem with movies is that, if you're not careful, you can (and I have) get done.Try dubbing some Chinese cartoons, maybe try to match the original actor, but also try doing your own thing.>it helps ALOT! thank you so much!No worries. Now get started.>>845371>You'll need to be able to sob, cry, and making retching sounds...See. I told you. Porn.
>>846252>See. I told you. Porn.I know you're joking, but it's not porn. It's a sci-fi short story. But the emotional level is very high, which is why I inquired about her acting ability. It's not a simple voice over. I need someone who can make it believable. If she could pull it off, it would be mutually beneficial. And like I said, I'm offering payment.

I don't know if this counts as online or not because it requires a bit of footwork every year, but I mostly do it sitting on my ass.I live right beside a college here and the majority of the students are international students (mostly Indian or Chinese), and they have shit English. Every year before school starts (around now, I've been going out for the past week or so and will into September) I go walk around the school and find the groups of Indian dudes sitting around yapping or the Chinese kids walking around looking lost and offer to "help" them with their English for essays and shit by editing them before they hand them in, they just have to write the content. They pay me per essay that I edit for them, usually $20 unless it's a big essay then more, and most of these students are well off so they don't care. I just take their horrible Engrish and turn it into something readable for them. I don't know the subject so I just keep the content they've put in there (unless they're in a business or finance program which I have knowledge on, then I can help out) and make it sound good, then send it back to them to hand in.I generally get home from work at 5pm and just do a few essays a night and send it back, pretty easy as a side income. Last year I was getting a lot of them though because they tell their friends, so I might have to devote more time to it this year, we'll see. The best thing about it is once they've used me for one or two essays, they HAVE to use me for the rest of them because if they hand in something with good, readable English, then hand in some horrible shit article that they've written, the teacher is going to know they didn't write the first one, lol.

I'm thinking about getting into real estate.I'm a 29 year old single Army vet, no kids. Just spent the last 8 years in IT and hated every second of it. The most rewarding part was face to face helping people and getting really good feedback about how good I was/how I was so different from the average neckbeard techie. The day to day same garbage of server admin and constantly being either completely bored or in some high stress fire had me close to driving off a bridge. Dealing with technical people with no troubleshooting ability or getting that 2AM call because something is down was garbage and no matter how much time I put in my salary stayed pretty crap tier.I was going to go all in on software engineer because the dev pay and work/life balance is a lot worse than being an IT janitor, but the more I think about it the less I want to sit in front of a PC 24 hours a day staring at lines of code and dealing with tech people. I'm an entrepreneur at heart. I hate working for other people and am extremely self motivated. Back in my early teens I made a ton of cash buying and re-selling virtual MMO goods on eBay and it didn't feel like work at all. When I was in my early 20s I continued that and in a good month made a few grand. Shortly after I deployed to Iraq and since then my life has been a shitfest.

>>858910what are you doing that allows you to work from home?
>>826686The problem with most home-based jobs right now is that they require you to use webcams so they could see your face, or install a software on your computer so they could monitor your hard drive and your screen to make sure you're doing your job. That's invasion to privacy. >>859789I actually got the job as an entry level developer but only because of my personal connection to one of the Managers. >>Not sucking dick for a salary>>shiggy diggy Also I'm constantly on the line with my coworkers working out how to solve technical problems, so the moral of the story is that even if you work in a technical field, even if you work from home, even if you never step foot in an office, social skills are important. Some of the worst features we have in our code base were built by bright developers that had absolutely shit teamwork skills. Same with meetings: we've wasted countless hours trying to reach what were insignificant decisions because of individuals with low emotional intelligence. So work on that social anxiety anon, I know you can do it. Stop surfing the chon every now and then and say hi to the person at the grocery market.

My family and friends think I'm a tech wiz because I fix all their tech issues and build my own computer, but 99% of my smarts comes from (smartly) googling my issues 9/10 times.

I worked for U-Haul as a Work From Home Center Sales Agent a few years ago. Pretty easy job, all you need is a computer with hardwired internet. NOT Wifi. People all over the US and Canada call in needing a truck or trailer. Help them reserve it, jot down details (# of rooms, distance, time and date), system shows you which equipment they need, take down their credit card info, boom. $8.25 an hour, plus $2.55 per reservation. You're required to average 3 reservations an hour, but if you're not a complete fucking retard then 5 reservations per hour is very easy to accomplish. Made $5.6K in one summer.
