I go NEET periodically.
I worked as a software developer for six years, invested some of that money (not much was left over due to HCOL area and low salaries in Canada) into stocks via TFSA (non taxable). Did okay, but wanted more so found crypto. Managed to make a good chunk of money, withdrew 100k, and left the job.
For the past three months played some good old games, read books, watched movies, hiked a bit, going to the gym. Playing around with technology, but Im not yet ready to seriously commit to a project. Ideally Id like to be financially independent so I can be NEET all my life and provide a worthy start to my kids once i get around to that.

Shit companies (usually large corps like Oracle, Accenture, IBM/ others) will not hire me, you're right. I periodically get linkedin messages from inhouse recruiters from good software dev shops (500 employees or less). Before I used to ignore them, but now I explain that I'm taking time off to work on my own projects and travel. 50% ask them to give them a message back once I'm available. So I'm not too worried about my employability. I'm looking forward - towards financial independence, not backward - towards being a wagecuck, no matter how "comfy".

If you are smart just go into academia.
