Sup, /biz/.

I'm 24 and I've been a fucking idiot. I've spend money stupidly and I'm now suffering the consequences.

>Inherited $140,000 after grandmother died
>Quit community college in Kansas, because miserable.
>Moved to Vancouver BC to "Follow my dreams as a producer"
>Got useless diploma in Entertainment Business Management, class cost $30,000
>Spend rest of money on Escorts, Travel, and business
>Business has only made $600 since it's founding in 2011
>Was forced to move to Washington because work permit was denied. No connections or family in the area.

I now only have $1,300 left and I'm working for Uber. I've been living on Yogurt and protein shakes for the past few months.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes (so long it's legal) to start making money so I can have that dream home in Vancouver. I really don't want to give up on my business (we make games, animation, and comics), but I don't think it's an option.

I fucked up, /biz/. What do?

Wasted $140,000 dollars. You deserve no help or anything. You already said it you are a fucking idiot. I'm 18 years old and positive I could have put the money to better use.

How in the everloving fuck have you only made $600 dollery-doos?

What has your company even released so far?

Anything? If so, why have these ventures been failures?

It could be salvagable if you already have assests due to that $140,000. I'm not some kind of business genius, but I am in a senior postion at my company and we do have a media branch. Just curious to see if your failures reflect ours and if I can offer some advice.

Hah. As if. I'm alredy working on getting into another uni to get into STEM. This isn't over. The fact that you would give up in my position speaks volumes.

>>823770
We comissioned comics, animation, and games. The reason we failed is due to a lack of finished products, which I marketed poorly.

I tried marketing via social media to avoid using marketing firms to save money. But in the end it was a stupid decision. While our products and IP's were mostly praised by the few followers we garnered, the amount of reach we had was very low. Our Facebook page has nearly 10,000 likes on it, but barely any of them engage with our posts, which says alot. We could entice people to look at us for a little, but then they'd lose interest. This is all on me and I don't blame anyone else for this.

In the end, it was a stupid idea to try and "follow my dreams", which is nye-impossible. Funny thing is I don't really regret it.

My grandmother forced me into community college in Andover, Kansas, where I'd be trained to be a doctor. You know who are the most common people to see doctors in Kansas? The morbildy obese.

I don't care how much you pay me. If I had a life of shoving my fingers up some obese dude and looking down their throats, I'd be miserable.

Right now, I'm not really miserable, although I am annoyed. I'm just trying to get into some STEM field that I don't hate.

>> No.823810

>>823792

It's not stupid, there has never been an easier time to get into that field.

You used the word "comissioned" there. How hands on were you with the project? As a small company, you're obviously going to need to be more involved than an established producer due to the lack of people and due to the fact your guys are PROBABLY going to be inexperienced and less driven than the higher wage creators from the major firms.

That seems like the organisation was very unfocused for a new company. Comics, animation and games are all very different areas, even though they share a market. How could you even possibly afford the assests/staff for all 3?

Did you outsource this to independant studios to produce you content?

>> No.823814

>>823810
We produced our own content, which again garnered positive responses from those who actually read our stuff.
We were working on a game, and an animation while we were publishing our comics on various boards and websites (Including /co/), but we never really got alot of support when it came to crowdfunding or engagement (while it be through commenting, likes, etc).

I could tell people were looking at our stuff, I just couldnt prompt anyone to actually engage with us. Which is again, not the consumers fault, but my fault for being shitty at marketing.

If I'm honest, it sounds like you've bitten off more than you can chew. You were 20 years old and in charge of a new company and tried to do videogames, comics and animation all at once, along with micromanaging the entire marketing side of things alone, with no possible prior experience in ANY of the above.

And that is aside from staff management. Your people are usually your biggest ongoing expense, and then your base of operations.

How many staff do you have, where are you working from and what does the company have in terms of assets left?

>> No.823827

>>823815

Honestly, I just want to work on my studio. It's what I like to work at, but as stated it's not something I can do for money. Maybe as a side-thing once I'm financially stable.

At the moment I just want to make enough money to move back to Canada where I can eventually buy a house, and have money on the side to keep making content.

>> No.823831

>>823822
I'm aware. It was kind of a "do or die" scenario. After my grandmother's death, I got really bummed out and pretty much hated life. I especially hated the career choices she made for me, which again, I blame on myself for not being stern. So I just charged into what I thought would eventually be a financial investment.

Which again, I don't really regret, since I'm happier than I was back in Kansas. I'd be miserable if I would of stayed there, as a doctor, operating on the morbidly obese.

We had five people on board.

Myself, as the founder, producer, writer, and in marketing.
Then there three artists, two of which didin't charge me as they're close friends who made concept art and story boards for our animations.

Then there was the comic artist, who basically made everything, from the sketching, to the inking, to the coloring.

Hey, dw lots of people fail, that's just part of life. You also said you were happy doing it. Also just use that same work ethic into another field and you will be just fine. Btw dw about the community they are bunch of kids who have no empathy for anybody but themselves. This whole idea that they wouldn't spend the money baffles me, considering 90% of the population of America is in debt.

Keep trying bro you will make it eventually, probably not in entertainment but in another venture if you put your mind and soul into it!
