Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers

People are kind of being dicks to you about this but the point is, you shouldn't be buying a stock simply because of it's cost you need to check out their financial documents, some apps will analyze this shit for you but you generally have to pay. If you start investing without knowing what you are doing, you will lose money, you'll panic sell, buy high sell low, many other things /biz/ loves to do. Download thinkorswim and use their fake money investing simulator for a couple of weeks before you jump in.

did not expect this thread to be here when I got back
first of all, stocks aren't cheap, they're just dividing the company into smaller pieces
it's like going to grocery store and only buying grapes because everything is sold by the pound

also this board is willfully ignorant about how complicated valuating stocks are. imagine trying to figure out the value of a small restaurant; you have to calculate the monthly profits, local shopping trends, the competition, etc. expanding that to international companies includes stuff like corporate taxes, geopolitics, even the weather.

that isn't even the hard part. what makes above average profits pretty much impossible (aside from luck) is that you're competing against people with way more resources and technology. it doesn't matter if you can figure out that restaurant is worth exactly $500k, some finance guy with a team of computer scientists and a super computer farm can do it faster than you. everything you buy ends up being a 50/50 bet, just with more to win or lose on each end.

I'd agree that the market isn't perfectly efficient.
but with a multi million/billion dollar bounty on finding those inefficiencies, why would you think you can find and act on them faster than the people with an army of employees backing them?

even people who do a few trades per year statistically do worse than the index. there is a significant amount of research showing that active traders lose out to the average most of the time.
at least open up a paper account and compare yourself to an index fund. just looking at the green numbers on your screen is a good way of fooling yourself out of your own profits

Statistically you are right, that doesn't mean people don't make money trading the way I do though. Different strokes for different folks thats all. I've done well so far, doesn't mean I won't lose money, but it doesn't mean I won't make money either. I've done well so far.
