Hi guys, any Phd's here? I'm considering dropping my phd (half a year in) here because I'm gaining massive weight and am generally unhappy as I am unable to connect with others at this university (I graduated from another university) as well as I fear losing my advantage on the private market (graduated in tax law). Anyone have similar experiences? I like science and writing but I guess not when its my core business.

i am about 20 required credits shy of my bsc, and I dropped in favor of my startup (granted, I was over elected credits because I took masters' courses). I don't think it's necessary to complete the degree at this point in time.

Unlike you I can always come back to it, but I don't know what will happen to your research.

Furthermore I think that you shouldn't drop if you don't have a concrete plan of what you're gonna do and how it will make you happy/successful. Just quitting for a change of scenery would likely be a dumb idea in the long run.

I'm finishing my Doctorate now.. It was a relatively relaxed job with low pay, but I got to travel the world.
Couldn't you travel to other laboratories/universities in other countries as part of your research? (Financed by the state or University)

Hi yeah. The possibilities are there but I think its a waste of time. I want to feel like I'm doing something useful. My research should be useful but it has left me socially isolated because it is so damn specific. I'm a normally a confident guy but this situation is zapping my energy.
