Bite the pillow edition.

Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access

holy shit watching CNBC this morning is hilarious. everyone is kvetching about all kinds of bullshit they know nothing about.

did anyone see that one steel guy that got interviewed? he came right out and said "listen, larry dont know shit about steel, thats what i do" on live fucking tv. fucking hilarious.

i dont know about you guys, but judging on the spin im seeing from the media, i am expecting a giant algo selloff. they will try to politicize this saying "drumphf broke the economy and hes a bully, but what about canada etc..."

frankly, i am fucking stoked about this. this is one of the main reasons i wanted to see him get in. having grown up in the rustbelt, i know firsthand the effect of NAFTA on US industry. SHORT THE CHINKS, TRADEWAR NAO.

Would somebody help a brainlet out. Im trying to understand how the taxes work for short term.
On a very basic level:
Cost basis is what how much I actually bought, including reinvestment. Basically every time I bought a stock added together.
Proceeds are everytime I sold stock added together.
Proceeds - cost basis = realized gains
Realized gains are then taxed ~40%
I can also deduct up $3000 in losses from my gains.

Is this correct. I know I left out wash sales. I’m still learning that.

The mines meet all requirements but they just outright refuse to renew or issue permits and the deep city folks are protesting any and all progress. I found it in 30 Days to Market Mastery which is a great book you could likely find online for free.

I use the finviz screener to find my stocks, of course. I think I've been making a mistake though in that I research after the market closes which sometimes leads to minimal lost prices from open market gains. If you do this, buy before close.

Most stocks on my watch list are doing terrible except the ones I bought based off the model today.

this is the reason i got involved with trading. cash is a terrible investment. 10k in the 70s and you could buy a fucking plane. 10k today is less than most min wage part timers get on the year. same dollar value, wildly different in terms of purchasing power. and thanks to our currency being entirely based off of debt, and regulated by the FED it will only ever get worse.

gains are essentially you losing purchasing power at a lesser rate than all the normies. this is why central banks hoard gold. they know its value will remain more or less stagnant even in a crisis.

>>8070941
what the fuck are you on about? the guy was short vol on one of the most crazy days weve seen all year. it hurts to have a trade move that far against you, and it can ruin you no doubt, but hes sitting there blaming it on trump.

trump is trying to level the trade balance we have with china because the last several presidents have been selling our souls to the slants. i dont blame the chinese for taking the deals, as obviously its great for them. i do however blame the absolute shithead politicians that made it possible for china to destroy our countrys industry. they essentially shorted the country they were elected to protect, lied to us about it, and now they are all kvetching that they cant use shit quality chinese steel and aluminum to sell us overpriced garbage chink trinkets.

as someone who grew up in the rustbelt, i know firsthand how deals like NAFTA can rugpull entire cities and states. as far as im concerned this is a step in the right direction. i hope that he takes it even further and imposes a general tariff on anything from china to further destroy our trade "relationship" with china. we DONT need their chink bullshit, we DO need the jobs, and we DO need the money. if cars cost $100 more, or cans of beer are .0006 cents more, so fucking be it. we cannot allow our politicians to sell our country to the chinese. look at what has happened to canada in this regard.

Trump is going to have to blow up NAFTA most likely. Think about his election promises and what he wants to do in 2020. This tariff is another voter satisfaction move. It's not that big of a deal.

Trump has to do work on this stuff. It won't be a big market impact, just watch as cucks freak out ala brexit/ trump election night.

evidence, and yes democrat sentiment can cause a stock market drop

During Tuesday’s State of the Union address, President Donald Trump gleefully boasted that, thanks to the confidence he has instilled in businesses, the stock market was reaching heights never before seen. “[It’s] smashed one record after another, gaining $8 trillion in value,” Trump said. “That is great news for Americans’ 401(k), retirement, pension and college saving accounts.”

Friday, however, the Dow was making headlines for completely different reasons. The stock market plunged by nearly 700 points, or roughly 2.5 percent, capping off its worst week in two years. In total, the Dow lost 4.1 percent of its value this week, including 362 points on the day Trump was giving his State of the Union address. There are several factors behind the drop, one of which being the latest U.S. jobs report showing an increase in jobs and workers’ wages — good news for Main Street that succeeded in freaking Wall Street out.

the media or the bonds?

>>8071841
>>8071870
youre right, but youre also wrong. if you were watching bonds leading up to that feb drop, smart money was planning on a drop a week before, meanwhile equities were going parabolic (this divergance in bonds and equities is a BIG red flag). and initially i think it was more due to powell coming in as new chair (new FED chair always fucks up errytang) and having to hike rates where yellen had just let it get out of control since 08 crash.

on the surface it seemed that the drop was due to politics. and it WAS the catalyst (the memo that is). the memo is very incriminating to a lot of people in our govt. they took the opportunity to launch a full scale algo dump across the whole markets. due to electronic trading and margins traders, this cascades into mass stop loss sells, and eventually margin calls which are liquidated all at once causing an even worse drop.

in addition, ive also heard rumors that the whole VIX catastrophe (which margined a LOT of big positions) was heavily manipulated by big guys writing tons of futures contracts to artificially drop the price and inflate VIX (ill try and find the article). so they took the opportunity that trump gave them to crash the market and try and blame it on him as a favor to their govt butt buddies. trump didnt do it, the hedgies did. they could have done it the day before, after, or whenever the fuck they felt like it. they did it then because they saw an opportunity to cause panic and sow political distrust. if every retail trader in the market just cashed out simultaneously, it wouldnt move the market nearly as much as that. its only when big money comes in that you see the moves we have been seeing.

TL;DR do not listen to the MSM, look THROUGH the MSM and try and see the way they are applying spin, and reverse engineer your way back to why they would be applying said spin.even as POTUS trump does not have the power to cause a crash like that, but hedgies DO.
