I know some people here despise Stamps.com but I still like it. Tried Ink Frog/Ship Station (Stamps.com owns it) but they all sucked for me.

Stamps freezes alot and crashes alot, also is confusing at first, but it gets the job done.

All you do is:

>click to see what's ready to be shipped
>fix the weight
>print
>put label on package

Simple huh?

I'm on my way to the post office right now since I don't have any priority mail (usps only picks up at your house if you have at least x1 priority mail).

99.8% handled the physical part well so I'll cover the pricing part.

For used/preowned auctions I will not go the free shipping route. I've found that being able to have my starting bids as low as possible draws a couple of bids.

Free shipping should have the shipping costs built into the price. It's suppose to give you higher ranking on Ebay and it should convert into more sales (seeing the word free helps convert potential customers into sales). Free shipping also gives you an automatic 5 stars for shipping costs when receiving feedback. This is also good for your ranking.

lol no prob, Amazon is great to sell on. Amazon simply:

>When it sells you don't get charged twice (like eBay/Paypal)
>If the buyer wants to cancel, they don't have to contact you
>You don't get penalized as much as eBay
So returns are easy, if/when you get scammed (Don't reject returns, Amazon doesn't like that, always accept)
>IF you do sell alot, you can just send everything to Amazon FBA and have them sell it for you form their warehouse (eBay is trying to copy this with their Valet thing).

Other week I bought something for $50 I flipped for $400. Would never sell for $400 around here, but some guy in Detroit was willing to pay $400.

That exposure alone is worth the fees. When you really think about it, it's peanuts compared to traditional advertising and marketing costs.

Just today on $90 investment I cleared $286, after fees and my original investment my profit for the day should be around $160ish when I do the labels. You could say I turned $90 into $250 and everything was sold before my fat lazy ass woke up at 11.

As someone earlier posted. We pay for the convenience. I have two dedicated websites for different products I sell. One day of profits from ebay equals 1-6 months profits on my websites. If I had a magical way of getting people to buy from them, it would be great. Why would they want to use a website with a fixed number of products, when they can add it to their cart on ebay or amazon and buy it with a whole variety of other products and have the peace of mind that comes knowing that if the product is shit, they retailer will give them their money back with no hassles.

For starting with eBay selling Chinese things, you'll have to keep searching until you find something. The new iWatch just came out, you can try your hand at the accessories. It works out pretty well. Not to talk down to my neighbors, but I'm a smart hick in the middle of dumb hick village. Like this morning at a yard sale I picked something up for a quarter that will make me around $10-15 after fees and shipping. Doesn't seem like a lot of money but it's profit off a quarter.

>>798044

Fuck the Chinese shit, I'ma give y'all niggas a tip and I shouldn't do it, but fuck it, I'm friendly.

Harbor Freight / Northern Tool

A couple of the items I sell as "hobby specific" are actually cheap shit from HF or NT. I found out an item that NT sells that the same company makes the same exact item for the military, so there you go, Military *ITEM*. So they sell for about 2-3x what I pay.

Check auctionzip.com

Most regions have a weekly auction you can attend and buy stuff that's already been brought over. Some of it's new shit, some of it food, some used. I deal with a local backwoods auction house and you get the weekly players there and at other auction houses buying box lots for pennies on the dollar (usually). Sometimes the rednecks get burned because they think something is worth x when it's worth y, and then they think something is worth nothing and I go sell it on eBay for $50 apiece.

There are also storage locker auctions but those have been fucked ever since those stupid fucking TV shows, but it's starting to return to normal since those shows have lost popularity. I'm going to one in the morning with an advertised 30+ units, so probably will end up being half that to 20 available because people have right until the point of the start to pay their shit off.

I don't expect to really get anything but if you don't take the initiative, you lose out on days. Plus there aren't many yard sales in the morning because it's end of the month, which is also good for the storage auction because the SSI cocksuckers don't have their checks yet.

>and yes, my biggest competition in the area are old farts who spend their entire SSI checks on shit to resell at the flea markets.

Just to give you an example. Last year. There was a liquidation of these shooter's ear protection. Retailed at the time for $100ish, I ended up selling all of them for $60 shipped a pop. I think I paid $12 or 15 a unit for them. But I also have some other shit that's been around for about a year and I'm getting ready to clear it out.

My rule of thumb: after three months, mark it down. After six months, mark it down to just a very small profit margin. After nine months, break even. Twelve months: donate it or flea market it or auction it for whatever I can get

Very few things make it to 12 months but alas, I have a few that just never sold and they're taking up space.

advertising is a pretty fucking basic principal of business. with eBay it's like you're crossing your fingers and hoping for a sale. I guess the exposure is real, (i mean i've sold on ebay too) but my real questions is about the dollar value of being on ebay vs somewhere else + advertising

>> No.798211

>how much inventory do you really need? I have a friend with exactly 1 product and he sells it all on shopify

Enough inventory to justify costs. Someone with one or two items might be better using a smaller service like Shopify or Etsy, but eBay is king when it comes to offloading mass amounts of goods, especially used goods.

>advertising is a pretty fucking basic principal of business. with eBay it's like you're crossing your fingers and hoping for a sale. I guess the exposure is real, (i mean i've sold on ebay too) but my real questions is about the dollar value of being on ebay vs somewhere else + advertising

It's not even close. eBay provides the best dollar for dollar value. Let's put it this way: not only do I service customers in North America, I get international orders regularly. From England to Belgium to Italy to Japan to Russia to even South Africa. Any of the billions of people in the world can go on eBay.com, type it something, and if I have it for sale, they will see it. And due to my top rated / powerseller status, I'm almost always near the top so they see mine first, which means I usually get the sale (also because I'm intentionally cheaper than everyone else).

>I ain't gotta fool with a facebook page or instagram page or twitter profile
>I ain't gotta put an ad in a newspaper or pass around flyers or business cards
>All my fat ass has to do is buy it, take pictures of it, and list it. eBay does everything else. The small chunk of change they get from me each month, well, I couldn't hire someone on that pay to do the legwork eBay's system does on my behalf.

The only site I prefer to eBay is Gunbroker (much cheaper fees + money orders are preferred on there) but:

>not as much exposure
>items don't sell for as much

Gunbroker is only good for selling things eBay bans because they're in Commiefornia, like hi-cap magazines. I actually make more money buying shit from Gunbroker sellers and RESELLING it on eBay.

hmm interesting.

It seems like ebay makes sense then for the "one off" "pawn shop" inventory.

Let's just pick the extreme case, lets say your a car dealership. Should you focus on having really good ebay listings, and selling all of them on ebay, or investing in TV, sponsorships, etc. to get your cars sold locally.

It might be a poor comparison because with ebay you typically ship products, and people want to touch/feel cars before buying generally, but you get the idea.

"If it was so great why wouldn't everyone do it" etc.

You'll find retail stores on Ebay?
Why?
Because it's exposure to a very large market. I agree with you that running your own store and advertising is a great way to make more money but when you really break down the numbers, Ebay can provide great value to sellers.

Also it can be tough to sell used goods on your own website because there can be a lack of buyer confidence. Sure some products like furniture would be better off advertising and selling locally (similar to your car thing) because people can come/touch/feel and thus build up the confidence to buy. Online however, I can have a used laptop and have some guy buy off my website and laugh my ass off if it doesn't work yet on Ebay they have buyer protection.

Craigslist I have to charge items cheaper just to even gain some attraction to it and then I have to deal with the time it takes to schedule something, meet up, and potentially deal with flakers or people that reschedule at the last second.

Ebay is pretty easy. Sell the item, print the label, package it and ship it out. If they return it within 14 days I provide a return service where they pay the return shipping. All automated.

I'm hearing alot about flipping items on ebay here. I'm a new seller looking to make some good side money while I go to school and have a part time job. What are some good routes to go? I've mostly been selling off stuff I already owned but I'm looking to branch out. Video games are a dead market on ebay, I'm not retarded. But I've recently been looking at flipping phones and other current tech. I just want some advice on how to not suck ass at this.

Haven't had any issues. I've also heard Ebay tends to side with sellers too if there are issues like them claiming the item never arrived when it showed delivered.

>> No.805013

>>804825

Also Ebay apprently charges the buyers way more than they need to so that they can pocket extra money. It's apparently cheaper to provide DHL shipping and make them pay for it then to let them go through Ebay.

This can encourage more international buyers because technically your item will be cheaper then if they had gone through the Ebay program. Overall I just let Ebay handle it.

Unfortunately most of these people are fucks. They're usually wage slaves being told to do shit because they need the job no matter what. They'll promise you the world but it's a shot in hell if you ever see something great happen.

I've had to deal with coders from China, India, etc. and it's a shitshow. There's a reason why only the very basic of basic work is being outsourced over seas. Serious companies can not afford to go a cheaper route if means the quality isn't 100% there. They'd rather get what they paid for.

How did you find the item that you're selling in a niche?
Did you discover it while selling random stuff from thrift markets, or did you do a bunch of research before hand and know exactly what you needed to do before you got it?

Basically, did you learn from trial and error or is it possible to jump right in a product with enough research?

I used to do that when I was in the Netherlands (guy from the other thread). It's pretty boring though due to caps on the amount of milk jars you can buy per supermarket, which means you need to go to all the fucking supermarkets and drug stores in the area, which if you don't have a car is a pain in the ass.

Also, you most likely need a chinese "affiliate" to get to the customers. Few of them speak english. But I knew a chinese guy that was doing 4-5k€ a month out of this.

I always air on the conservative side. Sometimes I sell open box store returns but I always list them as used.

Unless I know the motherfucker is factory sealed and it's insides has never felt a virgin's touch, it's used.

The only exception to this is one product that I sell, and it's only because they come from the distributor in a pack and I split them up individually, but I still bag/seal them myself. And IIRC, I think that listing is marked as New (Other)

>Video games are a dead market on ebay
Nah, you just need to scour the various other markets for cheap stuff then dump it on ebay.

I spent 500 bux on games last week and will probably get $1200 once they're finished selling. If you don't have garbage then people usually buy them quickly, but the return maybe isn't SUPER AMAZING like some people expect it to be, and there are better avenues to make dosh if you know your market.

Games are just so easy because they're easy to store and ship, so it's not a hassle to have a few stacks sitting around for 2 weeks as they sell.

The system was: My chinese friend (not the 4-5k a month, but the one I worked with) transferred me 1k. He was in touch with the customers and told me all we needed to buy. I bought it during the week all around my town and the neighbouring town, everyday.

>>805675
The jars were usually 12-14€ ea, and I made 3.5-4€ per jar. I accounted all that and when money was low he transferred 1k more. I packed everything up and he dealt with the packaging material + pickup of packages, which by the way was set by a chinese courier company (there were many, and they ONLY picked up boxes of milk powder).

On a good month I made 600-700€. I know, not much, but I was a broke student by the time and considering it took less than a part-time, it wasn't bad.

The guy that made 4-5k a month had no life, though. He was going from uni to drive his car all over the neighbouring towns till everything closed. He used to send around ~80 boxes (x6 jars each) a week, while we were sending 25-50 a month.

Forgot to answer the question. My friend was the one in touch with the customers. The webpages where he got them from were all in chinese, so I'd say the best way is to get a chinese friend to help you out, or join one that's already doing it.

>Listing says "For Apple Watch"
>Description/Title doesn't say "For"

How the hell does eBay not understand that it clearly wasn't meant to say it was made by Apple???

Not even that, the listing was empty! "(0) Available" since I stopped selling but forgot to delete.

GBA, DS, 3DS, Gamecube, Wii, SNES, N64 and whatever else is usually what I look for, with the usual Nintendo 1st party games, fan favorite 3rd party games, and JRPGs being the biggest sellers.

You should have an idea of what games would be popular if you've been playing games for awhile now. Like, if you see some old Final Fantasy games for the SNES, then you'd get those, or any of the old JRPGs for PS1, or Smash games, or whatever.

Just recently I bought a Majora's Mask limited edition 3DS XL plus some collector's shit for $150, then immediately resold for $310 a few days later. Just gotta keep an eye out for gems, but you're not really going to make bank like you could off other stuff, and some things take longer to sell than others. Garage sales and estate sales are where you're usually able to get the best stuff, but you usually have no idea what to expect when you go, and will probably be let down, so have 2-3 other types of items to look for while digging through games so you don't leave empty handed.

Xbox games are mostly junk, I don't even really bother with them unless I know it's something cool like MvC3. Nintendo and weeaboo games are where the money and the demand is. Best way to get a large stock is to find some putz selling a bunch of games on craigslist and offer to buy up his whole lot for a lot less than it's worth. Some people will take several hundred dollars upfront if it saves them a lot of hassle, despite that being like %60 sticker price.

Also ask people who are selling stuff if they've got more they wouldn't mind parting with. I got one day today to sell me his whole gamecube and PS2 collection when he listed just 1 game.

Just fish for it.
