Feeling like a productive discussion today on coin supply, one of the most important but least talked about coin attributes for the most part.

I've been trading since 2013 so I've noticed a big shift from the coins of old here. Back then, a supply of 100 million for new coins was considered VERY HIGH, but now a supply of 1 billion is normal and even expected. Back then a billion was unheard of.

Let's categorize as low (under 25mm), medium (under 500mm or 1b), and high (1b+) supply coins.

So a few examples of pros and cons:
Pros - high (ADA, XRP, TRX, XVG, etc):
>will keep prices in a human readable range for decades in the future - $10 for a 100b total supply coin is ludicrous now, but maybe not in 2050
>cheap for newcoiners now, so lower barrier to enter the market and could lead to faster adoption
Pros - med (ETH, LTC, most coins are in this bracket):
>human readable price range for present decade, 10s, 100s, low 1000s
>less vulnerable to whale accumulation/whale manipulation
>the old standard for coin supplies
Pros - low (BTC, etc):
>scarcity increases value
>values in the 1000s and 10000s in current decade
>rewards early adopters

Cons - high:
>extremely whale accumulation and manipulation
>whales control large percentages of total supply because of above
>takes a lot of capital to increase mcap
Cons - med:
>price still a barrier to some market participants/normies
>??? not many
Cons - low:
>high scarcity and price per coin a very large barrier to many market participants
>hard to achieve high % gains once value stabilizes

My opinion:
I think for now medium supply is the sweet spot until the market stabilizes, most high supply coins are pumped and dumped to death with current levels of manipulation, even if it's a good product.

what do you think biz?

Only interesting thing I can add to discussion is how this relates to deceptive market caps

I think I'd have to say medium > high > low is my order preference

mainly because of readability but it's a mental thing too, people like seeing big numbers which is why coins like xrp suck in so many normies based on speculation alone
I don't think xrp would be as attractive to normies if it had the same market cap but had way less coins

I doubt the utility of analyzing the effects of total coin supply. Beyond normies who think cheap=better, or expensive ='quality,' there isn't much to the idea. It can be an okay indication (it was for ripple and lumens), but there are better memes to clue in on, (eg. In the past it's been 'Supply chain', 'privacy', 'smart contracts' 'digital beans', 'fast transactions', 'web 4.0' etc). Whales only care about buying from or selling to latecomers to the current trend.
Also, people with a lot of money to invest care more about 'fundamentals' and possible %roi. They will buy and shill coins that connote memes of quality and utility instead of worrying so much about token supply.
I like your analysis but it seems to me that coin supply is one of the weakest indications memeworthiness, so you're better off spending time on other things.
